Abstract:
For high and long span of fastener-style steel pipe formwork supports, it is not sufficient to ensure it's stability and safety by only analyzing the stability of single standing poles and just taking necessary construction measures. The stability analysis for the whole fastener-style steel pipe formwork supports is required. Sampling inspections of the tightening torques of steel fasteners of four construction projects were made. The measurements show that the fastening torques of more than eighty percents of the inspected samples can not meet the requirement of the current design specification in China, where the specified value of the fastening torque should be within the range from 40 Nm to 65 Nm. Moreover, the average value of the fastening torques of the samples is less than 20 Nm. The suitable consideration on the connection performance of the fasteners is critical for the analysis of the stability of the whole fastener-style steel pipe formwork supports system. Therefore, experimental studies on the slip resistant performance of fastener joints were conducted with the consideration of the major factors such as fastening torques and the type of fasteners. Based on the tests, the effects of the factors on the slip performance were analyzed. By comparing the test results with the values in the current specification, it is clear that the fastening torque values and the effect of the type of the fasteners should be ascertained case by case. The findings from this study can provide useful information for the analysis and design of the high and long span of fastener-style steel pipe formwork supports in practice.
