Abstract:
A series of Eu3+-doped red-emitting phosphors Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2 were synthesized by a sol-gel method. The as-synthesized phosphors were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Effects of Eu3+ adding amount and charge compensation agent (i.e., Li+, Na+, K+) on the emission intensity of the sample were investigated. The results indicate that the phosphors can be efficiently excited in a near ultraviolet light of 393 nm. The most intensive emission intensity of the Ca8Mg(SiO7)4Cl2:Eu3+ phosphor, which is prepared with Na+ ions at the Eu3+doping content of 3% (in mole fraction), can be obtained. The chromaticity coordinates of the Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2:Eu3+ phosphor are calculated to be x=0.641 and y=0.358, located in the red region of the CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram. © 2016, Editorial Department of Journal of the Chinese Ceramic Society.
