Abstract:

In order to investigate the actual vibration control effect of the isolated sub-structure for the mega frame structure, numerical simulation and shaking table test of the (non-isolated) mega frame structure and the isolated mega frame structure with isolated sub-structure were performed. The prototype structure was introduced, then numerical analyses of the structures were carried out using finite element method, to study the seismic response control effect of the sub-structure isolation technique towards the main structure and the sub-structure. The model structure and its test scheme were introduced. Shaking table tests of the model structures were performed, the seismic responses of the main structure and the sub-structure were measured and analyzed. Analysis and test results indicate that the basic period of the mega frame structure with isolated sub-structure is prolonged. The first six modes of vibration of the mega frame structure with isolated sub-structure are mainly the sub-structure's vibration, while the first six modes of vibration of the non-isolated mega frame structure are mainly the main structure's vibration. With the sub-structure being isolated, the seismic responses of the main frame structure and the sub-structure are reduced evidently. The seismic responses and control effects of the lower second sub-structure are larger than the third sub-structure. Lateral deformations of the isolated sub-structures are concentrated on the isolation layers, but the displacement of the isolation layers are less than the width of the isolation joint. © 2017, Editorial Office of Journal of Building Structures.
