Abstract:
Wireless power transmission (WPT) has enabled wireless charging of electric vehicles (EVs), an emerging mode of transport. The life of the battery unit inside an EV is affected by the charging process. To increase battery device longevity, the primary charging modes are first constant current (CC) charging, followed by constant voltage (CV) charging. This highlights the importance of designing WPT systems capable of load-independent CC and CV charging. This article proposes a dual-port CC and CV output topology to fulfil the objectives. Along with the horizontal and vertical stacked bipolar coil structure, the system achieves efficient dual-port CC and CV charging. Moreover, it accomplishes zero phase angle. The entire process can be accomplished by a simple switch. Ultimately, an experimental prototype is constructed to verify the suggested content. System efficiencies have been all above 80%. © 2023 IEEE.
