Abstract:

The DC system always achieves fault isolation when dealing with issues by tripping the DC circuit breaker. However, the breaking stress requirements of the DC circuit breaker are significantly increased as a result of the poor damping properties of the DC system. This work studies the transient properties of active current limiting device in the breaking process of DC circuit breaker and offers a method of using active current limiting device and DC circuit breaker to collaborate with each other in order to solve this problem. The reliability of the DC circuit breaker breaking the DC system can be increased by reducing the voltage and current stresses placed on it during the breaking process by the active current limiting mechanism. The technique is then tested in the simulation environment of MATLAB/Simulink. The outcomes of the simulation demonstrate the beneficial influence of the active current limiting device on the DC circuit breaker's breaking procedure. © 2023 IEEE.
