华茶产制技术落后于印、锡等外国茶,是晚清时期华茶对外贸易由盛转衰的重要因素之一,机器制茶在晚清中国被视为实现华茶复兴的关键之策.经过多年坎坷实践,晚清时期零星的"机器制茶"虽有个别短时成功案例,但由于缺乏行业团体与有效组织,自发的机器制茶试验未能成功,民间与官府试图以机器制茶谋求华茶复兴的夙愿终归于失败,未能如愿推动华茶制造从手工制作向机器生产的产业升级,但这些尝试客观促进了民国时期华茶产制技术的进步.
