Abstract:
There will be two charging systems in the electric vehicle (EV), namely wireless power transfer (WPT) to charge the high-voltage battery and the auxiliary power module (APM) to charge the low-voltage battery, which will increase the cost, volume and weight of the EV. This paper proposes an integrated system that combines WPT and APM with a shared coupler. The APM system uses a coupling coil to directly couple with the receiving coil of the WPT system. The common structure includes three parts: the active rectifier, the compensation network, and the receiving coil. When the EV is charged wirelessly, it is allowed to charge the high-voltage battery and the low-voltage battery simultaneously. When the EV is not wirelessly charged, the energy can be transferred from the high-voltage side to the low-voltage side through the coupling between the receiving coil and the coil at the APM side. The integration of WPT and APM can significantly improve the overall power density of the EV powertrain and reduce its weight and cost. An experimental prototype is implemented to validate the proposal. © 2023 IEEE.
