Abstract:
Liquid metal embrittlement (LME) susceptibility of three FeCrAl alloys (i.e., Fe10Cr4Al, Fe15Cr4Al and Fe10Cr6Al, wt%) was tested in oxygen-saturated and -depleted liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) at 350 ?C using slow strain rate tensile tests. The results show that all three alloys are very susceptible to LME, manifested by a severe reduction in total elongation to failure and prevailing cleavage on fracture surfaces. LME is delayed in oxygen-saturated LBE, due to a dewetting effect of surface oxides. In three alloys, Fe10Cr6Al is most susceptible to LME, especially in presence of oxygen-depleted LBE.
