Abstract:
Different protective oxide-coatings, including SiO 2, Al 2O 3 and ZrO 2, were prepared on the stainless steel (SS304) by sol-gel method. The crystalline phases and microstructure of these coatings were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The high-temperature oxidation resistance, the thermal shock resistance and electrochemical corrosion resistance (in 3.5wt% NaCl solution) of the samples coated with different oxides were also compared. The results show that the Al 2O 3 coating exhibits the best high temperature oxidation resistance and electrochemical corrosion resistance and the ZrO 2 coating has the best thermal shock resistance among these coatings.
