Abstract:
Most of the two-way curved arch bridges, which were constructed created in China in 1960s, have now demonstrated a poor structural performance at monolithic aspect. Under the long-term heavy load and heavy traffic, more or less structural damage exits in these two-way curved arch bridges and some of them are even in danger to collapse. The assessment and maintenance of these dangerous two-way curved arch bridges become more and more important. In this paper, based on the structural assessment of an existing damaged two-way curved arch bridge, the field load test, structural analysis and assessment are reported in details. It is demonstrated that, the structural performance of the bridge can be evaluated and the corresponding service status can be assessed by use both load test and structural analysis results. The similar procedure can be used to evaluate the structural safety of other existing two-way curved arch bridges.
