Abstract:
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have many advantages such as low weight, convenience in use, excellent mechanical strength, immunity to corrosion. FRP, as a retrofit way, is widely used in civil engineering. Whilst FRP composites have little impact on stiffness of concrete filled steel tubes, they can improve bearing capacities of the composite members exerting hoop confinement on them. This paper introduces the recently finished experimental results of FRP-confined concrete filled steel tubular columns in Fuzhou University. The feasibility of retrofitting concrete filled steel tubes (CFSTp) using FRP is discussed, and the future research work is introduced.
