Abstract:
Under the action of meizoseismal forces, a base-isolated building is possible to pound adjacent buildings because the horizontal displacement of bearings is too large. A nonlinear Hertz-damp impact model with contact element approach in the form of spring and dashpot was used to model the adjacent buildings. The equations of motion for the structural pounding system were set up and the influences of the impact on the isolated structure and the non-isolated structure were studied. Then, the analyses of parameters were performed. The results showed that the pounding on the base-isolated structure leads its every-floor acceleration to have an obvious magnification, however, the vibration-isolating device can still protect its upper-structure.
