Abstract:
A method is proposed to evaluate the aseismic performance of existing concrete piers based on the effectiveness assessment of reinforcement construction details. The influence of reinforcement construction details on the aseismic performance of the piers are discussed from four aspects: the longitudinal reinforcement and stirrup anchorage structure, the stirrups to prevent buckling of longitudinal reinforcement between two stirrups, the stirrups to prevent buckling of longitudinal reinforcement through stirrups, and the stirrups to confine core concrete. By the proposed method, the shear capacity, flexural capacity, and ductile deformation capacity can be calculated based on the effectiveness assessment of structural details, and thus the seismic performance of bridge piers can be assessed. The performance of stirrups, longitudinal reinforcement, concrete, and other materials can be predicted when the earthquake occur. The weak parts with bad seismic performance in the member can be shown, which can provide reference for the strengthening of piers. © 2016, Editorial Office of China Civil Engineering Journal.
