Abstract:

The High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) has made great progress in the compression efficiency of video coding. It achieves better performance and halves bitrate compared to H.264 under the same visual quality. However, its complexity has also been significantly increased, especially in intra prediction. In this paper, a fast intra prediction algorithm based on confidence is proposed. Firstly, this paper calculates the confidence of each mode, and builds the 2D vector based on the confidence and angle of mode. Secondly, the number of mode candidate list is further reduced according to the confidence of prediction mode. Finally, it sets a threshold based on the confidence to determine whether Coding Unit (CU) partition terminates early. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can obtain a promising performance with a negligible impact on rate distortion.
