Abstract：
The ligand HL (HL = N-acetylpicoloylhydrazide, alpha-(C5H4N) CONHNHCOCH3) and its nickel complex NiL2.1.5H(2)O (C17.5H24N6NiO6.5) have been synthesized. Crystal data: space group P2(1)/c, a = 1.5393(1) nm, b = 0.80278(7) nm, c = 1.8245(1) run, beta = 105.985(3)degrees, V = 2.174(3) nm(3), Z = 4, F(000) = 1004, R = 0.0503 for 2799 observed reflections [I greater than or equal to 2sigma (1)]. The nickel atom in the complex is of irregular polyhedral N4O2 coordination. There is a one-dimensional chain structure through the intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The nu( C = 0) and nu(C = N) bands display a shift to lower frequencies in IR spectra. There are pi-pi* transition and d-pi* charge-transfer transition in electronic spectra.
