The　ligand　HL　(HL=　N-acetylpicoloylhydrazide,　α-(C5H　4N)CONHNHCOCH3)　and　its　nickel　complex　NiL　2·1.5H2O　(C17.5H24N　6NiO6.5)　have　been　synthesized.　Crystal　data:　space　group　P21/c,　a　=　1.5393(1)　nm,　b　=　0.80278(7)　nm,　c　=　1.8245(1)　nm,　β　=　105.985(3)°,　V　=　2.174(3)　nm3,　Z　=　4,　F(000)　=　1004,　R　=　0.0503　for　2799　observed　reflections　[I≥2σ(I)].　The　nickel　atom　in　the　complex　is　of　irregular　polyhedral　N4O2　coordination.　There　is　a　one-dimensional　chain　structure　through　the　intermolecular　hydrogen　bonds.　The　ν(C=O)　and　ν(C=　N)　bands　display　a　shift　to　lower　frequencies　in　IR　spectra.　There　are　π-π*　transition　and　d-π*　charge-transfer　transition　in　electronic　spectra.
