Abstract:
Transformation of vesicles formed in DTAB/C-11-p-FhCNa aqueous surfactant two-phase (ASTP) was observed by the transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The trans-conformation of the gemini surfactant in the aggregates was considered to be the important factor for constructing the multi-lamellar structure of the vesicle wall. The cation-pi interaction between the quaternary ammonium cation and the aromatic ring in the spacer was determined by the UV-Vis spectrum analysis, which, as well as the general electrostatic attraction and hydrophobic force, contributes to the stability of the multi-lamellar structure. The concentrations of the surface-active ions were measured for understanding the mechanism of vesicle transformation. The results show that isoelectric mixing of the two components benefits the growth of vesicles both in size and wall thickness.
