Abstract:
A supramolecular assembly [Fe-2(CO)(6)(1,8-S-2-2-CH2OCO-4-PyC10H5)]center dot ZnTPP (2) of a pyridyl-functionalized diiron naphthalene-1,8-dithiolate complex [Fe-2(CO)(6)(1,8-S-2-2-CH2OCO-4-PyC10H5)] (1) and zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) was synthesized and thoroughly characterized. X-ray structural studies showed the noncovalent coordination of the pyridyl nitrogen of 1 to the zinc in ZnTPP had a minor effect on the geometry of the diiron cluster, only leading to Fe-Fe distance of 2 slightly shorter than in 1. Electrochemical studies verified that the complex 1 possessed an electrocatalytic proton reduction activity in acetonitrile, when using p-toluenesulfonic acid as a proton source. The steady-state fluorescence studies of assembly 2 revealed that the excited state of associated ZnTPP could be significantly quenched by the diiron core. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
