Research on Arc-Breaking Characteristics of Contactors Based on Image Processing Scopus

Abstract :

This paper designs an image processing module with a series of functions, such as gray image conversion, pseudo-color enhancement, and binarization processing. According to the signal waveform collected by the system, the arc power of the electromagnetic switch is calculated and the arc image is analyzed. Using the test and analysis system of electromagnetic switch action characteristics independently developed by the research group, the synchronous trigger function is used at the same time as the test, and the arc image is photographed by a high-speed camera. Analyze the arc image, get detailed information on the arc image, generate the curve of arc area change, and explore the relationship between arc area change and other parameters. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract :

There are a large number of single-phase loads with random power consumption in the distribution area, which leads to load imbalance and affects the power quality and power supply reliability of the distribution area. Adjusting load phase by automatic switching switch is an effective scheme to control load imbalance. In view of the installation position and number of switches and the switching control of load in this scheme, this paper uses the niche particle swarm based on chaotic mutation to configure the switch and switch the load, and completes the construction of the three-phase load automatic switching system in the distribution station area. Finally, the simulation results show that the three-phase load automatic switching system can achieve better three-phase load imbalance control effect under lower planning cost. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract :

The objective of this article is to experimentally investigate the dispersion of breakdown (BD) voltage for double vacuum gaps (VGs) in series under a lightning impulse voltage. In the experiments, the double VGs were built up by vertically connecting two pairs of copper sphere-plane electrodes in series. The diameters of the sphere and plane electrode was 30 and 50 mm, respectively. The total gap distance dT of two VGs was set as 4.0 and 5.0 mm. The experimental results express that, for both single VG and double VGs in series, with the increase of gap distance, not only the fluctuation range of BD voltage significantly increased, but also the dispersion of BD voltage became larger. By comparison, the 50% BD voltage of double VGs was higher than the single VG with the same dT, which confirms the saturation effect of BD voltage for a long VG could be reduced by series-connecting multiple VGs. Moreover, under dT of 4.0 and 5.0 mm, as single VG increased to double VGs, 100% BD voltage significantly increased by over 20 kV and 0% BD voltage slightly decreased by around 3 kV. Thus, the double VGs in series had a larger dispersion of BD voltage than the single VG. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract :

The reliability problems of relays in service have been identified as the primary cause of repeated operational accidents involving missiles, rockets, and satellites. Consequently, accurately assessing the reliability of relays is a critical issue that requires immediate attention. However, addressing this issue is complicated by the multi-source variability (including unit-tounit variability, temporal uncertainty, and measurement error) inherent in the degradation processes of relays. To fill these gaps, this paper introduces a novel reliability analysis method for relays, which is based on a nonlinear Wiener process model incorporating random effects. The analytical expression of the reliability function corresponding to the proposed model is derived. Subsequently, a statistical inference method is developed based on the maximum likelihood estimation. Furthermore, the efficacy of the proposed method is demonstrated and validated using degradation data from a specific type of relay. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract :

A reconstruction method using experimental arc fault data to improve the testing efficiency of protection devices is introduced. By establishing an arc-current database and employing collaborative control of data and circuit feedback signals, the electronic load can be precisely regulated enabling arc fault currents to be reproduced in real-world circuits. To address the frequency mismatches caused by power frequency fluctuations, an adaptive correction control strategy is proposed to eliminate waveform distortions in the reconstructed arc current. Simulations and experiments confirmed the consistency between the arc data and reconstructed current signals, and the method's feasibility was further validated by testing six arc-fault protection devices from different manufacturers.

Abstract :

The actuator drivers are rarely transplanted among different contactors because the self-tuning of excitation control parameters either takes a long time or is relevant to many contactor structural parameters. An adaptive actuator driver for ac contactors is proposed based on the coil impedance estimation and mathematical equations between the coil impedance and excitation control parameters. The coil impedance estimation and its error correction are established through the voltage balance equation when the contactor is in the open position. The coil inductance estimation is established through the zero-state response equation when the contactor is in the closed position. The mathematical equations are established based on the equivalence of the electromagnetic force under different excitation methods, the power consumption model, and the control system's transfer function. A geometric feature of the flux linkage waveform is established to identify whether a contactor is in the closed position and realize the self-transition of the driver's working state. Then, self-tuning regulators for the excitation control parameters are realized. This driver has a plug-and-play function for ac contactors and can reduce the contactor's power consumption. This driver may be prospectively reduced to a chip.

Abstract :

In order to solve the problem of low efficiency of traditional intelligent contactor performance test, this paper proposes a contactor dynamic characteristic test and analysis system based on NI CompactRIO, which is convenient for measuring the performance index of intelligent contactor. The system includes a Human-Machine-Interaction(HMI) interface, which can control the action of the contactor to be detected and collect signals in the host computer platform. According to the trend of the collected signal waveform, the performance indexes of the contactor, such as the closing/opening time, the closing/holding power, are calculated. The system also has the functions of cyclic switching test and automatic data storage, which greatly improves the automation level and efficiency of the test. It provides data support for the improvement and optimization of the control strategy of intelligent contactor. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd. 2024.

Multi-load Series Fault Arc Identification Based on PSO-RELM EI

Abstract :

Most of the existing fault arc circuit breaker is only for single circuit single load. Aiming at the problem of complex running load of low-voltage power lines, set up an experimental platform to collect the current signals of series fault arcs in main and branch lines under the conditions of single load operation and multi-load operation of typical household loads, to create a waveform database. Various time-frequency domain feature quantities are extracted, and a subset of the feature quantity data is constructed by random forest and input to a regularized limit learning machine (RELM) for fault arc detection, and the most appropriate input weights and implied layer thresholds of the RELM are optimally selected by a particle swarm optimization (PSO) to improve the accuracy of fault arc identification. The result shows that the PSO-RELM algorithm achieves an accuracy of 98.37% and can accurately identify fault arcs in multi-load situations. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd. 2024.

Abstract :

The arc extinguishing system is the main component of the micro circuit breaker, and the structural parameters such as the arc extinguishing grid, the size of the outlet hole, and the contact angle affect the breaking capacity of the micro circuit breaker. In this paper, an arc simulation model is built based on magnetohydrodynamics. On this basis, the transient process of short-circuit current is taken into account to improve the accuracy of the simulation model, and the validity of the model is verified by experiments. Based on the simulation model, the influence of arc extinguishing grid and outlet hole size on the arc extinguishing ability of micro circuit breaker is analyzed by arc shape and external characteristics. The results show that increasing the arc extinguishing grid will make it difficult for the arc to enter the grid, but at the same time, it can increase the arc voltage and promote the extinction of the arc. In terms of the outlet hole, the uneven distribution of the arc when the outlet hole size is 2 mm and 4 mm will cause the arc to blow out from the grid, and the phenomenon of the arc blowing out from the grid can be effectively avoided when the outlet hole size is 3 mm. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Abstract :

The basis of intelligent control of contactor is mostly realized by DC control and high-frequency PWM control. In order to further optimize the control algorithm for problems such as bounce and contact arc, parameter identification of electromagnetic mechanism is essential, and parameter mismatch directly affects the control accuracy of the algorithm. Based on the control rate accelerator CLA (Control Law Accelerator) module of digital signal processor DSP chip TMS320F28069, the parameters of electromagnetic mechanism controlled by intelligent closed-loop control algorithm of contactor are identified in real time, which greatly reduces the calculation burden of the chip under high frequency control. The identification results are output through SPI protocol and DAC module, which verifies the effectiveness of the parameter identification system. © 2024 IEEE.
