Abstract :
The equigenesis hypothesis suggests that greenery has the potential to reduce health disparities across socioeconomic groups. This is important in high-density urban setting, because greenery can improve human health, but also promotes equitable access to health benefits thus reducing health disparities. However, findings are inconsistent, partly due to the predominance of cross-sectional studies. Moreover, the equigenic effects of street- level greenery, remains underexplored. This longitudinal study examined the effect of street-level greenery on the emotional well-being of older adults. We analyzed 3110 street view images from 1,550 locations in Fuzhou, China, collected in 2014 and 2020. Street-level built environment features were measured using the DeeplabV3 network. Emotional well-being, operationalized as perceptions of pleasantness, was quantitatively evaluated using the Microsoft Trueskill approach to convert the paired comparisons of images into a ranked score. Moderation effects of street-level greenery, were investigated through interactions with educational attainment and economic status, based on individual-level fixed effect models. Our findings revealed that: 1) street-level greenery had the most significant influence on enhancing perceptions of pleasantness; 2) the interaction between street-level greenery and average education years, was positively associated with perceptions of pleasantness, while a negative interaction was observed with economic status. These results suggest that while street- level greenery may mitigate income-related disparities, it could accelerate education-related disparities in emotional well-being among older adults. This study offers new insights into the equigenesis hypothesis through a longitudinal lens, demonstrating that street-level greenery may not uniformly improve mental health equity among older adults in Chinese cities.

Abstract :
Urbanization has led to a significant increase in noise pollution, severely impacting the psychological well-being of urban dwellers. This review critically evaluates the effectiveness of urban blue-green spaces in mitigating noise pollution and enhancing tranquility experiences. Initially, this study utilizes CiteSpace visualization software for bibliometric analysis to scrutinize the current research landscape and pinpoint emerging trends. We systematically searched the Web of Science (WoS) database with the following parameters: Topic = (("noise" OR "tranquility") AND ("soundscape" OR "green space" OR "blue space" OR "blue-green spaces")), 2015 to 2024. Through meticulous screening, 1504 articles were selected as the final research sample. We discuss both subjective and objective methods for assessing tranquility, and we categorize and thoroughly review the various factors influencing perceptions of urban tranquility. These factors include the interplay between natural and anthropogenic soundscapes, the authenticity of visual environments, and the unique auditory characteristics of human activities. Additionally, our review highlights the pivotal role of individual behavioral propensities and cultural frameworks in crafting tranquility experiences, and proposes a shift from reactive noise prevention to proactive tranquility exposure research. The insights provided here lay a foundation for future academic exploration and offer practical guidance for planning and management of blue-green infrastructure.

Abstract :
Urban forests significantly contribute to the subjective well-being of urban residents. As the scenic areas around cities, urban forests allow visitors to experience and perceive various intangible cultural ecosystem services by transmitting environmental information. Historically, long before the advent of modern society, humans have explored the forest surrounding urban areas for the well-being provided by their ecological environments. This study focuses on the Kushan Scenic Area depicted in ancient poems as a case to explore (1) the cultural services provided by ancient Kushan Mountain's ecosystems, (2) the primary landscape categories depicted in historical poems, (3) the relationship between cultural services and landscape features, and the factors influencing this relationship. This research identifies five types of cultural services provided by the past urban forest: recreation and ecotourism (3 3 6), inspiration (2 3 0), spirit and religion (2 0 2), social relations (1 7 4), and cultural memory (1 2 1). Geological landscapes (25.3%), meteorological landscapes (21.1%), and hydrological landscapes (15.3%) emerge as key categories that stimulate ancients’ perceptual cultural services. The research reveals a distinct association between the perception of cultural services in ancient times and specific landscapes, with the strength of this association being influenced by factors such as season, time of day, and scenic context. Consequently, for the effective planning, marketing, and promotion of scenic areas and preserving their historical ambiance, a comprehensive understanding of the changing environment information of urban forests as scenic areas is essential, necessitating sustainable strategies. © 2024 The Author(s)

Abstract :
User-generated data can reflect various viewpoints and experiences derived from people’s perception outcomes. The perceptual results can be obtained, often by combining subjective public perceptions of the landscape with physiological monitoring data. Accessing people’s perceptions of the landscape through text is a common method. It is hard to fully render nuances, emotions, and complexities depending only on text by superficial emotional tendencies alone. Numerical representations may lead to misleading conclusions and undermine public participation. In addition, the use of physiological test data does not reflect the subjective reasons for the comments made. Therefore, it is essential to deeply parse the text and distinguish between segments with different semantic differences. In this study, we propose a perceptual psychology-based workflow to extract and visualize multifaceted views from user-generated data. The analysis methods of FCN, LDA, and LSTM were incorporated into the workflow. Six areas in Fuzhou City, China, with 12 city parks, were selected as the study object. Firstly, 9987 review data and 1747 pictures with corresponding visitor trajectories were crawled separately on the Dianping and Liangbulu websites. For in-depth analysis of comment texts and making relevant heat maps. Secondly, the process of clauses was added to get a more accurate representation of the sentiment of things based on the LSTM sentiment analysis model. Thirdly, various factors affecting the perception of landscapes were explored. Based on such, the overall people’s perception of urban parks in Fuzhou was finally obtained. The study results show that (1) the texts in terms of ‘wind’, ‘temperature’, ‘structures’, ‘edge space (spatial boundaries)’, and ‘passed space’ are the five most representative factors of the urban parks in Fuzhou; (2) the textual analyses further confirmed the influence of spatial factors on perception in the temporal dimension; and (3) environmental factors influence people’s sense of urban parks concerning specificity, clocking behavior, and comfort feelings. These research results provide indispensable references for optimizing and transforming urban environments using user-generated data. © 2024 by the authors.

Abstract :
The discrepancy between the physical accessibility and perceived accessibility of public service facilities in coastal towns and villages of Fujian, China, was investigated in this study. Through a spatial distribution analysis of education and medical service facilities in Liushui Town and Xingchen Town, the equity and coverage levels of various facilities were evaluated based on the residents' physical travel costs and perceptions. The results show pronounced spatial heterogeneity between the physical and perceived accessibility across different regions. Our findings suggest that, while certain areas boast a lot of physical access to facilities, the residents' perceived access is significantly influenced by factors such as the terrain, transportation conditions, and the types of available travel tools. The findings of this study provide a scientific basis for optimizing the allocation of rural public service facilities, aiming to bridge the foundational service gap between urban and rural areas and promote the equitable development of rural living environments.

Abstract :
The restorative effects of soundscapes on human physical and mental well-being are widely recognized, but their effectiveness is influenced by various factors, including external environments and individual characteristics. Despite being a crucial element in environmental experience, the role of individual behavior in the restorative effects of soundscapes has been insufficiently studied. To address this research gap, we conducted a survey in five parks in Fuzhou, China, using questionnaires to assess visitors' evaluations of soundscape characteristics, their soundscape restorative experiences, and behavioral characteristics. A total of 419 valid responses were collected. Using these data, we employed a structural equation model and conditional process analysis to explore the interaction between visitor behavior and soundscape experiences. The results show that soundscapes with pleasantness and eventfulness promote static behaviors to a certain degree, while dynamic behaviors are influenced solely by eventfulness soundscapes. In the process by which soundscape characteristics influence restorative experiences, static behavior is the only mediating factor, accounting for 8% of the total effect. Additionally, increased visit intensity enhances the impact of pleasantness soundscape on restorative experiences while weakening the mediating effect of static behavior. These findings provide strong support for relevant design considerations.
