Numerical simulation of different microstructures on fiber filtration efficiency EI

Abstract :

This paper utilizes a coupled model of the lattice Boltzmann method and discrete element method (LBM-DEM) to simulate the flow field and particle motion in a three-dimensional porous medium. It investigates the impact of different microstructural characteristics of filter media on filtration performance under the same porosity conditions. The model not only considers the mechanisms of inertial deposition and electrostatic forces but also incorporates the effects of Brownian diffusion and dielectrophoresis, providing a preliminary comparison of various filtration mechanisms. The research results indicate that: (1) under identical porosity conditions, the filtration efficiency of unidirectional interlaced fibers significantly surpasses that of other fiber models with different microstructures; (2) the model integrating four filtration mechanisms demonstrates higher filtration efficiency. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Abstract :

Abstract :

We use the Multiple-Relaxation-Time Lattice Boltzmann model to simulate the flow field and particle motion in a 2D porous media configured with various fiber cross-section shapes. Four sets of experiments are conducted to investigate the particle interception efficiency of four fiber structures with the same porosity. We find that: (1) with the same porosity, the filtration efficiency of hexagonal fibers is higher than that of fibers in other tested shapes; (2) sparse structures as shown in the ellipse and rectangular cases yield low filtration efficiencies even with a low porosity number. © 2022 IEEE.

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

Fibrous porous media plays an important role in aerosol or small particle filtration. The filtration of fibrous porous media is a composite process, of which the filtration performance is affected by many parameters and is quite difficult to be predicted precisely. In this paper the parameters affecting the filtration performance are re-examined. Especially, the influences of fiber sizes and the porosity of the porous media to the filtration efficiency are analyzed further.

A Weighted Strike-Related Implied Volatility Model CPCI-S

Abstract :

The implied volatility in the Black-Scholes model is assumed as a constant. However, empirical analysis proves that the values of the implied volatility based on the same underlying asset vary with the underlying asset price, maturity date, time to maturity, and the strike price. Ronald Lagnado and Stanley Osher and Chiarella proposed the techniques for calibrating derivative pricing by solving an inverse problem. In this paper, an improved model is proposed. In which, the influence of the options with different strike prices is distinguished by weights and the choices of the weight functions are discussed. The approach we take is numerically solving an inverse problem which is more solid in theory than simple regression methods. Numerical results show that our model has better adaptivity and accuracy than traditional models.

Abstract :

This paper proposes a privacy-preserving retrieval scheme for JPEG images based on local variance. Three parties are involved in the scheme: the content owner, the server, and the authorized user. The content owner encrypts JPEG images for privacy protection by jointly using permutation cipher and stream cipher, and then, the encrypted versions are uploaded to the server. With an encrypted query image provided by an authorized user, the server may extract blockwise local variances in different directions without knowing the plaintext content. After that, it can calculate the similarity between the encrypted query image and each encrypted database image by a local variance-based feature comparison mechanism. The authorized user with the encryption key can decrypt the returned encrypted images with plaintext content similar to the query image. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme not only provides effective privacy-preserving retrieval service but also ensures both format compliance and file size preservation for encrypted JPEG images. Image Segmentation With Eigenfunctions of an Anisotropic Diffusion Operator SCIE

Abstract :

We propose the eigenvalue problem of an anisotropic diffusion operator for image segmentation. The diffusion matrix is defined based on the input image. The eigenfunctions and the projection of the input image in some eigenspace capture key features of the input image. An important property of the model is that for many input images, the first few eigenfunctions are close to being piecewise constant, which makes them useful as the basis for a variety of applications, such as image segmentation and edge detection. The eigenvalue problem is shown to be related to the algebraic eigenvalue problems resulting from several commonly used discrete spectral clustering models. The relation provides a better understanding and helps developing more efficient numerical implementation and rigorous numerical analysis for discrete spectral segmentation methods. The new continuous model is also different from energy-minimization methods such as active contour models in that no initial guess is required for in the current model. A numerical implementation based on a finite-element method with an anisotropic mesh adaptation strategy is presented. It is shown that the numerical scheme gives much more accurate results on eigenfunctions than uniform meshes. Several interesting features of the model are examined in numerical examples, and possible applications are discussed.

Abstract :

Anisotropic mesh adaptation is studied for the linear finite element solution of eigenvalue problems with anisotropic diffusion operators. The M-uniform mesh approach is employed with which any nonuniform mesh is characterized mathematically as a uniform one in the metric specified by a metric tensor. Bounds on the error in the computed eigenvalues are established for quasi-M-uniform meshes. Numerical examples arising from the Laplace-Beltrami operator on parameterized surfaces and nonlinear diffusion problems in image processing and radiation hydrodynamics are presented. Numerical results show that anisotropic adaptive meshes can lead to more accurate computed eigenvalues than uniform or isotropic adaptive meshes. They also confirm the second order convergence of the error that is predicted by the theoretical analysis. The effects of approximation of curved boundaries on the computation of eigenvalue problems is also studied in two dimensions. It is shown that the initial mesh used to define the geometry of the physical domain should contain at least root N boundary points to keep the effects of boundary approximation at the level of the error of the finite element approximation, where N is the number of the elements in the final adaptive mesh. Only about 3 root N boundary points in the initial mesh are needed for boundary value problems. This implies that the computation of eigenvalue problems is more sensitive to the boundary approximation than that of boundary value problems.
