Fiber-Optic Current Sensing Based on Reflective Polarization-Bias-Added Structure SCIE
期刊论文 | 2024 , 24 (1) , 292-302 | IEEE SENSORS JOURNAL
Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

Polarimetric fiber-optic current-sensing technology is typically employed for measuring high current, as the low Verdet constant of optical fiber makes Faraday rotation not noticeable in low-current measurements and subsequently leads to low current sensitivity. To enhance current sensitivity, a polarimetric method based on a reflective polarization-bias-added (RPBA) structure is presented in this article. First, it is proved by the Jones matrix that current sensitivity would be compromised due to the constant term in the traditional sensing output. Then, the single-axis measurement method is employed to eliminate the constant term using the single-axis working (SAW) circulator. In consideration of the accuracy of subsequent signal decoding, the bias is generated by the RPBA structure to process optical signals between the circulator and the mirror. Next, a decoding algorithm based on parameter optimization is presented to restore the measured current from the photodetector output. Finally, the experimental results show that the current sensitivity of the presented method can be larger than 0.005 V/A under the premise of small measurement error in the vibration-and-temperature test. Compared with the existing polarimetric methods whose current sensitivity tends to be 0.002 V/A, the presented method has better current sensitivity without incurring additional sensor-head turns or optical devices.

AC Breakdown Characteristics of Hybrid Nitrogen-Barrier Insulation Systems at Different Pressures SCIE

Abstract :

Breakdown voltage of the nitrogen insulation gap can be increased by inserting a polymer barrier to form a hybrid nitrogen-barrier insulation system. In this article, the effect of barrier position on the breakdown voltage of a hybrid insulation system is investigated at different gas pressures. Reducing the distance from the barrier surface to the rod electrode leads to higher breakdown voltages at gas pressures in the range of 0.1-0.25 MPa. Additionally, the breakdown field strengths of the insulation gaps at different gas pressures are studied. When the barrier is placed near the plate electrode, the breakdown field strength shows a linear increase with increasing gas pressure. Furthermore, the breakdown paths in the hybrid insulation systems can be classified into two types. The breakdown voltages of the two path types are close. A prediction model of the breakdown voltages at different pressures based on the breakdown path is proposed. The proposed model is also suitable for hybrid insulation systems with different size barriers. The barrier with lower relative permittivity and higher resistivity tested in this article has a more significant effect on increasing the breakdown voltage. The influences of the barrier surface charge on the electric field and breakdown processes are also discussed.

Abstract :

The improvement of the transmission capacity of the line of EHV submarine cable has become urgent issues that need to be addressed. The transmission capacity of the EHV submarine cable is mainly determined by the operating temperature of the submarine cable. Therefore, several cooling schemes are compared to analyze their cooling effect on the cable core temperature in this paper. For the water pipe cooling scheme, the cooling effect is the most significant when the velocity of the cooling water is slower than 0.1 m/s, increasing the number of cooling water pipes can effectively reduce the cable core temperature. For the wind cooling scheme, the cooling effect is the most significant when the velocity of the air is slower than 0.1 m/s, and the cooling effect is more significant with the air velocity. For the backfill soil cooling scheme, the cooling effect is more significant with the thermal conductivity of the backfill soil. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd 2024.

Discharge characteristics and reactive species diagnosis of a He + Ar + O2 plasma jet at atmospheric pressure EI

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

Mixing helium and argon as the working gas of cold plasma jet is expected to combine the merits of He plasma jet and Ar plasma jet and has great potential for medical applications. For this reason, the discharge characteristics and reactive species diagnosis of a He + Ar + O2 plasma jet were studied in this paper. The result shows that the Penning effect between He and Ar is strongest when the volume fraction of Ar in the working gas is 10%, and the plasma jet propagates the longest distance. A low drive voltage and a wide pulse width will weaken the Penning effect between He and Ar, resulting in a decrease in the ionization efficiency of the plasma jet. Gelatin gel was used as the model human tissue, and the effective treatment area of He + Ar + O2 plasma jet on the model tissue increases with the volume fraction of Ar in the working gas. When the volume fraction of Ar is 50%, the effective treatment area of He + Ar + O2 plasma jet is 9 times that of He + O2 plasma jet, and the surface distribution of reactive oxygen species on the model tissue is almost uniform. Moreover, with the increase of volume fraction of Ar, the influence of the change of the plasma jet treatment angle on the surface distribution of reactive oxygen species is significantly weakened, indicating that He + Ar + O2 plasma jet can precisely control the reactive species dosage on the living tissue for clinical application. Abstract :

Abstract :

Mixing helium and argon as the working gas of cold plasma jet is expected to combine the advantages of helium plasma jet and argon plasma jet. Surface distributions of ROS on model tissue treated by a He+Ar+O2 plasma jet were investigated in this study. The results show that the effective treatment area of He+Ar+O2 plasma jet on model tissue increases with the argon volume fraction in the working gas. When the argon volume fraction was 60%, the effective treatment area of the He+Ar+O2 plasma jet is 9 times greater than that of the He+O2 plasma jet, and the surface distribution uniformity of ROS on model tissue is even greater than that of Ar+O2 plasma jet. Furthermore, mixing helium and argon as the working gas of the plasma jet diminishes the effect caused by variations in the treatment angle of the plasma jet, maintaining the effective treatment area of the plasma jet directly below the jet nozzle. These results suggest that He+Ar+O2 plasma jet is advantageous for precisely controlling the dosage of ROS in clinical applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract :

In practical engineering, there are combined air gaps formed by floating conductors, which exhibit more complex discharge characteristics compared to air gaps. This paper conducts AC voltage discharge experiments on floating conductors with different diameters and lengths under different electrode structures and combines with electric field simulation for analysis. In the rod-plane gap and small sphere- plane gap, the breakdown voltage curves show an initial increase followed by a decrease as the floating conductor moves away from the high voltage electrode. For the large sphere-plane gap, the breakdown voltage curve shows an increasing trend, and the phenomenon of the discharge the sub-gap between floating conductors occurs when the conductors are near the high voltage electrode, thereby influencing the breakdown voltage. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract :

With the development of the power grid at high altitudes, more and more transmission and transformation projects are being implemented at altitudes close to 5000 meters. As the altitude increases, the air pressure decreases, resulting in a decrease in the insulation performance of the air gap and requiring corresponding adjustments to the insulation structure of power equipment. This paper investigated the AC breakdown characteristics of air in non-uniform electric fields at pressures of 50100 kPa. The relationship between maximum breakdown field strength and electric field non-uniformity factor at different pressures was analyzed. The applicability of streamer criterion in low-pressure air gap was also analyzed. The results show that the breakdown voltage increases with increasing pressure and electrode distance for different electrode radius. At the same air pressure, the maximum breakdown field strength increases with the decrease of the electrode radius. When the electrode radius r ≥ 1.0 cm, the streamer criterion can accurately calculate the breakdown voltage of short air gaps at low pressures. © 2024 IEEE.

Abstract :

Traditional polarimetric current-sensing methods contain many optical devices, leading to poor reliability. Also, their sensing output is distorted by massive system noise. To address these issues, this article presents a polarimetric current-sensing method using single-axis polarization encoding (SPE) and a dynamically decoding algorithm (DDA). A single-axis circulator (SAC) and a Faraday rotator mirror (FRM) are used to encode the measured current by light. The SPE only requires these two optical devices in the light-propagation path, enhancing the measurement reliability. The encoding process can significantly suppress the noise by eliminating high-order terms. To correctly restore the current signals, the light intensity is decoded by Jones-matrix analysis and dynamic parameters. Finally, normal currents, fault currents and harmonic currents in grids are used to test the performance of the presented method. The results show that the maximum amplitude error is smaller than 1.3% in a wide range of amplitudes, frequencies, temperatures, and vibrations, and the signal-to-noise ratio and number of devices required in the path are 51.43 dB and 2, respectively (those of the recently published polarimetric method are 1.7%, -4.24 dB, and 5, respectively).

Abstract :

Low-current measurement is a challenging task for polarimetric fiber-optic current-sensing (FOCS) systems due to low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and sensitivity to current (STC). To tackle the challenges, this article proposes a FOCS approach on bias-added measurement and main-component reconstruction. To enhance STC, the adopted FOCS structure is based on bias-added measurement using a bias-current coil and a single-axis working circulator instead of traditional polarizers. However, the unavoidable noise would decrease the SNR of FOCS output. An algorithm of main-component reconstruction is presented to filter out the noise. The main-component distribution of the FOCS output is analyzed by a feature vector based on the spectral subzones. Using an appropriate threshold, the subzones with prominent features are self-adaptively decomposed to extract the main components by fast matrix decomposition. At last, the main components are adopted to reconstruct the FOCS signal. In comparison with other reflective methods, the experimental data suggest that the STC and SNR of the proposed approach can be increased by 200% and 22%, respectively. The similarity between the expected and reconstructed signals reaches 0.9993 under the premise of a small measurement error.
