Abstract :

A smart grid is a new generation power system, which realizes the interconnection of information in intelligent, efficient, and stable operation modes. Thus, high -voltage monitoring is an important part of ensuring efficient power transmission in a smart grid. However, traditional voltage monitors that rely on wired connections have limitations in meeting the adaptability requirement for smart grids. In this work, inspired by the double-TENG structure, we propose a self -powered high -voltage monitoring device with strong anti -interference, namely, the Maxwell's displacement current -driven lighting emitting diode (MDC-LED), and proved that the MDC-LED with four electrodes can reorganize the electric field near the powerline, leading to an approximately uniform electric field. Therefore, the light output from the MDC-LED is highly sensitive to the electrical signal of the powerline and has a strong anti -device vibration. Because of the MDC-LED's high sensitivity to alternating electric fields, it can detect the electric pollution in the powerline, as well as the powerline's vibration frequency and amplitude. We believe the MDC-LED can provide a novel technical approach for the development of detection systems for use in smart grids.

Abstract :

Due to the simple structure, single-contact light-emitting diode (SC-LED) holds promise for applications in ultrahigh resolution micro-displays. However, the required alternating current (ac) operation poses challenges for grayscale modulation in image display applications. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop a potential grayscale control technology for the ac-driven SC-LEDs. In this work, the optical and electrical characteristics of the SC-LEDs are investigated, and an anomalous pulsewidth modulation (A-PWM) technology is proposed. In the A-PWM mode, the brightness decreases with the increasing pulsewidth, which is totally different from conventional pulsewidth modulation. The carrier transport model and the circuit model are established to clarify the A-PWM mechanism. Furthermore, the brightness division is carried out on the basis of the A-PWM, and the human eye brightness perception model is established. Nonlinear correction is applied to align the brightness change with the characteristics of human eye perception. This work proposes a brightness modulation method suitable for SC-LEDs, which is expected to be applied to ac-driven nano-pixel light-emitting displays.

Abstract :

The human brain possesses a remarkable ability to memorize information with the assistance of a specific external environment. Therefore, mimicking the human brain's environment-enhanced learning abilities in artificial electronic devices is essential but remains a considerable challenge. Here, a network of Ag nanowires with a moisture-enhanced learning ability, which can mimic long-term potentiation (LTP) synaptic plasticity at an ultralow operating voltage as low as 0.01 V, is presented. To realize a moisture-enhanced learning ability and to adjust the aggregations of Ag ions, we introduced a thin polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) coating layer with moisture-sensitive properties to the surfaces of the Ag nanowires of Ag ions. That Ag nanowire network was shown to exhibit, in response to the humidity of its operating environment, different learning speeds during the LTP process. In high-humidity environments, the synaptic plasticity was significantly strengthened with a higher learning speed compared with that in relatively low-humidity environments. Based on experimental and simulation results, we attribute this enhancement to the higher electric mobility of the Ag ions in the water-absorbed PVP layer. Finally, we demonstrated by simulation that the moisture-enhanced synaptic plasticity enabled the device to adjust connection weights and delivery modes based on various input patterns. The recognition rate of a handwritten data set reached 94.5% with fewer epochs in a high-humidity environment. This work shows the feasibility of building our electronic device to achieve artificial adaptive learning abilities.

Abstract :

Optimizing the driving panel of display to decrease the number of driving lines is of importance to high-resolution displays. Especially, it is important to address the challenge of the increasing number of row and column electrode lines. In this work, an approach for realizing the one line-to-three LEDs driving method employing the noncarrier injection (NCI) operational mode has been demonstrated, and the NCI-LEDs using discrete components are constructed. The operating characteristics and principles of the NCI-LEDs are studied. It is demonstrated that electroluminescent (EL) output states of three parallel NCI-LEDs vary with driving frequency, that is, the NCI-LEDs has frequency-selective properties. Therefore, the separate control of three LEDs under the control of a single signal line is realized, and the subpixel circuit selection of three RGB colors is realized. This driving method can effectively mitigate the complexity of the electrode wiring required by the row-column scanning, which is expected to provide important guidance for the development of high-resolution displays.

Abstract :

In order to evaluate the influence of defects on the performance of Micro‐LED devices, this paper adopts a finite element simulation method based on semiconductor physics. Firstly, a simulation model of Micro‐LED devices is established, including key components such as electrodes, materials, and structures. Then, defect parameters are set to simulate the optical properties of Micro‐LED devices. Finally, by comparing the simulation results with or without introducing deep level defects, the influence law of these defects on the optical output and electrical characteristics of Micro‐LED devices was revealed.

Increasing energy barrier between quantum dots for enhancing non-carrier-injection electroluminescence SCIE

Abstract :

Quantum dot (QD) light-emitting devices operating in non-carrier-injection electroluminescence (NCI-QDEL) mode have attracted attention due to their extremely simple structure and excellent stability. However, the working mechanisms of the QD-based NCI-QDEL still require further improvement, especially regarding the transfer process of charges between QDs. Noting that there are plenty of salt compounds and organic ligands between QDs during the solution synthesis, which must have an influence on the device performance by impacting the charge transfer process. Thus, it is necessary to reveal effect of the QD surrounding states on the NCI-QDEL performance. In this work, effect of the purification process on the surrounding states of QDs is investigated, and the charge transfer process is elucidated according to the NCI-QDEL performance. It is found that a moderate energy barrier between QDs is helpful to improve NCI-QDEL. We propose a working mode of the QD-based NCI-QDEL, in which the salt compounds and organic ligands between QDs are equivalent to QD-QD energy barriers that can adjust the charge transfer process and increase the electron-hole overlap probability. We believe that this work can provide guidance for the design and fabrication of QDs suitable for NCI devices.

Abstract :

Random Ag nanowire network with high density and adaptive properties can mimic the complex network topology of neurons and has a wide range of applications in the field of information storage, selectors, and neuromorphic computing. In this work, Ag nanowire devices are prepared on a patterned electrode substrate by a spin-coating process to investigate the impact of the concentrations and diameters of Ag nanowire on their electrical properties. The results show that the random network prepared by Ag nanowires with diameter of 30 nm and composite solutions with concentrations of 5 wt% can achieve controllable high switching resistance behavior. Furthermore, the resistive behavior with large switch is used as the initialization process of the device to achieve controllable synaptic plasticity behavior, which can respond to ultra-low voltage. Finally, the working mechanism of random Ag nanowire networks under different electrical stimulation is proposed by an investigation into the formation and rupture process of Ag nanofilaments in individual nanojunctions. This work provides new ideas for the physical realization and application of random network in the field of novel neuromorphic device. © 2024 Chinese Vacuum Society. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

Efficient, accurate and comprehensive measurement of photoelectric thin films can provide in-depth information about their structural properties, electrical and optical characteristics, etc., which plays a key role in the design and performance optimization of devices. Additionally, the detection and characterization of photoelectric thin film also provide an important theoretical basis and guidance for the research and development of photoelectric thin film materials and promote the technical progress and application expansion in the field of photoelectric devices, which is of great academic significance and application value. In recent years, a variety of new detection and characterization techniques have emerged, but there are a few related reviews of the literature, which makes it difficult to intuitively understand the principles of the latest characterization methods and their specific applications in the optimization of device performance. In this paper, the basic principles and characteristics of current detection and characterization techniques of photoelectric thin films are reviewed based on the three dimensions of angle-resolved, spatially-resolved and time-resolved, and the application progress of relevant techniques in the luminescence characteristics, visualization of spatial heterogeneity and carrier dynamics of photoelectric thin films is introduced. Finally, the future development trends of photoelectric thin film detection and characterization technologies are discussed and anticipated. © 2024 Chinese Vacuum Society. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

Wearable implantable electronic devices (WIEDs) play an important role in data interaction and information collection, which provides new ideas for the development of consumer electronics, medicine, industry, and agriculture. However, battery endurance has become one of the bottlenecks impeding the development of WIEDs. Therefore, finding effective ways to address this issue has become a hot research topic in WIEDs. This article summarizes the research progress in the field of in-situ power supply technologies for WIEDs, including self-powered technologies and wireless power transmission techniques. Self-powered technologies can collect energy from the human body and the natural environment, such as biochemical energy, mechanical energy, and solar energy. Moreover, the types of wireless power transmission depend on different energy carriers, such as electromagnetic waves and mechanical waves. We compare the advantages and the application scenarios of various solutions, discuss the current challenges of different technologies, and finally provide possible future development trends. We hope that this paper will be helpful in designing innovative WIEDs with high battery endurance.
