Investigation on the material removal mechanism of sapphire wafer by novel green slurry in semi-fixed abrasive polishing SCIE
期刊论文 | 2025 , 566 | WEAR
Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

It is a great challenge to produce ultra-smooth surface of sapphire wafers at high material removal rate (MRR) using green slurry in semi-fixed abrasive polishing. A novel environmentally friendly polishing slurry was developed by preparing abrasives and complexing agents to improve surface quality and polishing efficiency. The SiO2 and diamond/SiO2 composite abrasives were successfully prepared by a simplified sol-gel strategy, exhibiting high purity, homogeneous particle size, and excellent dispersibility. Based on the semi-fixed polishing technology, the green polishing performance of sapphire wafers using different types of abrasives alone and in combination with complexing agents was investigated. The experimental results demonstrated that the novel slurry containing triisopropanolamine (TIPA) and diamond/SiO2 composite abrasive had superior polishing performance. Compared with the traditional diamond slurry, the surface roughness of the novel slurry was reduced by 24.4 % to 6.2 nm (Ra), while the MRR was increased by 65.4 %. Through electrochemical experiments, molecular simulations, and infrared analysis, the improved polishing performance of the composite abrasives with TIPA may be attributed to the complexation of TIPA and the optimization of interfacial contact behavior. The analysis of wear debris and polished sapphire wafer surface further pointed out that the deformation reduced the indentation depth while enhancing the reactivity of the friction chemistry. The diamond/ SiO2 composite abrasives with TIPA slurry accelerated the generation and removal of the reaction layer consisting of AlOOH, Al-OH, and Al2Si2O7, realizing the optimal synergy between mechanical wear and tribochemistry, which significantly improved the polishing quality.

Freestanding metamaterial with constant coupling response for terahertz flexible functional devices SCIE

Abstract&Keyword Cite Version(2)

Abstract :

Metamaterials (MMs) have become increasingly prominent in terahertz flexible devices. However, bending deformation often alters the structure of the unit, which affects the response performance and stability of MMs. Here, a metal-aperture metamaterial (MA-MM) utilizing the strong coupling effect induced by two resonance modes is innovatively proposed to address the mentioned limitations. Specifically, it is found that the coupling state between multiple resonance modes remains consistent at different bending angles. Under these circumstances, the generated Rabi splitting peak presents stable response performance even under low resonance intensity caused by excessive deformation. The experimental results demonstrate that despite the amplitude of two resonant peaks decreasing significantly by 87.6%, the Q-factor of the Rabi splitting only reduced by 14.8%. Furthermore, armed with the response mode of the Rabi splitting being unaffected by plasma excitation range, the designed MA-MMs are able to maintain constant Q-factors and frequencies on curved surfaces of varying sizes. These findings exhibit the characteristics of electromagnetic response for multi-mode resonance-coupled MAMMs on different curved surfaces, presenting a novel design approach for terahertz flexible functional devices. Continuous laser direct writing of discrete patterns of micro-polarizer arrays via synchronized exposure and path correction EI

Abstract :

The micro-polarizer array (MPA), as an essential micro-nano optical component, has wide applications in polarization imaging, optical information processing, and quantum optics. Nevertheless, conventional laser direct writing techniques exhibit low efficiency when processing discrete patterns in MPA and suffer from problems such as processing path deviations and poor endpoint morphology consistency. In this paper, a continuous processing method for discrete patterns in different directions during MPA fabrication was proposed, using a position-synchronized exposure strategy, instead of asynchronous exposure, to ensure the stability of the scanning speed and improve the processing efficiency. Additionally, to correct the processing path deviations observed during experiments, the shutter response delay time was measured, and a compensation path was introduced. Acceleration control in the transition regions was also optimized to address the problem of uneven endpoint dimensions. The results showed that the optimized method achieved an average scanning speed of 0.19 mm/s, nearly six times higher than the traditional method. Meanwhile, the total processing time was reduced to 287 s (43% of the traditional method) with no path deviations or exposure failures, dramatically improving MPA processing efficiency and consistency. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. Manipulating multiple plasmon modes by coupling fields for broadband filtering in terahertz metamaterials SCIE

Abstract :

Multiple modes resonance provides the possibility of broadband filtering and has great potential applications in terahertz devices, including miniaturized spectrometers, hyperspectral imagers and optical switches in communication systems. However, it is difficult to further expand the bandwidth range due to the inability to stack an infinite number of resonant structures in a finite space. Here, an innovative method is reported for manipulating two localized surface plasmon polaritons (LSPP) modes by multiscale-coupled plasmonic fields to realize broadband filtering at terahertz (THz) frequencies. The interaction between two LSPP modes was verified theoretically and experimentally, exhibiting a prominent Rabi splitting and two peaks with high transmittance. Particularly, broadband filtering is accomplished by utilizing a double-layer structure that can be regarded as a cavity for inducing far-field interference. Experimental result demonstrates that the maximum transmission range of the bilayer metamaterial reaches 0.63 THz. Besides, the two wide bands can be integrated into one broadband through near-field coupling effects. The integration of strong coupling and far-field interference expands the transmission range of the double-layer metamaterial, further enhancing its capability for broadband filtering. This unique approach for manipulating multi-mode plasmonic coupling forges a convenient route for realizing broadband filtering.

Abstract :

Due to its exceptional mechanical and chemical properties at high temperatures, Inconel 718 is extensively utilized in industries such as aerospace, aviation, and marine. Investigating the flow behavior of Inconel 718 under high strain rates and high temperatures is vital for comprehending the dynamic characteristics of the material in manufacturing processes. This paper introduces a physics-based constitutive model that accounts for dislocation motion and its density evolution, capable of simulating the plastic behavior of Inconel 718 during large strain deformations caused by machining processes. Utilizing a microstructure-based flow stress model, the machinability of Inconel 718 in terms of cutting forces and temperatures is quantitatively predicted and compared with results from orthogonal cutting experiments. The model's predictive precision, with a margin of error between 5 and 8%, ensures reliable consistency and enhances our comprehension of the high-speed machining dynamics of Inconel 718 components.

Abstract :

To enhance the excavator performance considering the digging force and boom lift force under typical working conditions, this paper aims to solve the complex multiobjective optimization of the excavator by proposing a new knowledge-based method. The digging force at multiple key points is utilized to characterize the excavator's performance during the working process. Then, a new optimization model is developed to address the imbalanced optimization quality among subobjectives obtained from the ordinary linear weighted model. The new model incorporates the loss degree relative to the optimal solution of each subobjective, aiming to achieve a more balanced optimization. Knowledge engineering is integrated into the optimization process to improve the optimization quality, utilizing a knowledge base incorporating seven different types of knowledge to store and reuse the information related to optimization. Furthermore, a knowledge-based multiobjective algorithm is proposed to perform the knowledge-guided optimization. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed knowledge-based method outperforms existing methods, resulting in an average increase of 15.1% in subobjective values.

Changing torque-force synchronization condition for abrasive particle improves material removal during silicon carbide abrasive machining SCIE

Abstract :

Silicon carbide (SiC) is extremely hard and brittle, posing challenges for traditional abrasive machining. This study used molecular dynamics simulations to investigate synchronous versus asynchronous force -torque effects on SiC abrasive machining. Multi-grit diamond abrasion of 4H-SiC was modeled by applying controlled sinusoidal forces and torques. Asynchronous force -torque increased material removal rates up to 2X versus synchronous conditions by promoting particle agglomeration and enabling trapped particles to contribute. However, asynchronous operation also produced higher surface roughness and subsurface cracking from greater penetration. The alternating forces generated larger stresses that may have driven more plastic deformation and brittle fracture. The study provided atomic-scale insights into force -torque effects, establishing guidelines to potentially enhance efficiency through asynchronous operation despite drawbacks.
