Abstract :

Can wastewater surveillance assist China to cost-effectively prevent the na-tionwide outbreak of COVID-19? SCIE

Abstract :

China has controlled the nationwide spread of COVID-19 since April 2020, but it is still facing an enormous threat of disease resurgence originating from infected international travelers. Taking the rapid transmission and the mutation of SARS-CoV-2 into consideration, the current status would be easily jeopardized if sporadic locally-transmitted individuals are not identified at an early stage. Clinical diagnosis is the gold standard for COVID-19 surveillance, but it is hard to screen presymptomatic or asymptomatic cases in those who have not exhibited symptoms. Since presymptomatic or asymptomatic individuals are infectious, it is urgent to establish a surveillance system based on other tools that can profile the entire population. Infected people including those who are symptomatic, presymptomatic, and asymptomatic shed SARS-CoV-2 RNA in feces and thereby endow wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) with an early-warning ability for mass COVID-19 surveillance. In the context of China's "COVID-zero" strategy, this work intends to discuss the practical feasibility of WBE applications as an early warning and disease surveillance system in hopes that WBE together with clinical testing would cost-effectively restrain sporadic COVID-19 outbreaks in China.

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Kinetic insight on the long-range exclusion of dissolved substances by interfacial interactions of water and hydrophilic surface SCIE

Abstract :

Exclusion-zone (EZ) phenomenon generally refers to a long-range exclusion of particles at the interface between a hydrophilic surface and a bulk aqueous solution. Although the rejection of dissolved substances such as dyes and ions has previously been reported, it is still disputable till now due to the limitation of the optical microscopic observation. The controversy on the solute exclusion not only leads to significant divergence on our understanding of the EZ formation mechanisms, but also constrains the application of EZ phenomenon in physical, chemical, biological, and environmental processes. Therefore, here we propose a UV/Vis spectrophotometric method to clarify the occurrence of solute exclusion in the presence of hydrophilic surface. The consistence of the microscopic and UV/Vis spectrophotometric results in both particles and solutes proves that the UV/Vis spectrophotometric method is suitable for the quantitative characterization of the EZ formation process. Through this spectrophotometric method, we found the exclusion of particles and solutes with different exclusion behavior near hydrophilic surface. We expect this work will provide a different insight in understanding the underlying mechanisms for EZ formation and the long-range interactions between water and hydrophilic surface, as well as the possible application of this exclusion phenomenon in relevant fields. Community Transmission via Indirect Media-To-Person Route: A Missing Link in the Rapid Spread of COVID-19 SCIE SSCI

Abstract :

To prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), stringent quarantine measures have been implemented so that healthy people and virus carriers have isolated themselves in the same community owing to the limit capacity of healthcare facilities. With the exponential growth of the infected population, the residential environment is contaminated by fomites from the infected residents and consequently threating the health of susceptible residents. Till now, little has been acknowledged on this indirect transmission route and its role on community transmission. Here we address the impact of self-isolated virus carriers on the residential environment and elucidate the potential transmission pathways via contaminated environment in communities. We urge further investigation on the superspreading cases in communities and hope to arouse the attention to evaluate the potential risk of indirect transmission route as well as the corresponding control measures.

TiO2-B nanowires via topological conversion with enhanced lithium-ion intercalation properties SCIE

Abstract :

In the present work, TiO2-B nanowires have been successfully synthesized for the first time based on a topological conversion process by using titanate as a precursor and exhibited a length of several hundred nanometers and a width of approximately 10 nm. This resulted in excellent electron/ion transport properties and reaction kinetics in lithium intercalation. Consequently, as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, TiO2-B nanowires exhibited an extraordinary rate performance and outstanding long-term cycling stability with a capacity of 192.4 mA h g(-1) after 3600 cycles at a rate as high as 10C.

Abstract :

An active absorption layer with a narrow band gap has been achieved through adjusting the halide ratio in a halide perovskite, and it had better energy alignment with the Zn2SnO4 electron transport layer. An efficiency of 19.37% can be obtained, and this has also been improved to 20.26% through the incorporation of cesium, giving a new triple cation perovskite.
