Abstract :
Two o -carborane based tetraphenylethene (TPE) cationic cyclophanes O1 4PF6 and O2 4PF6 were synthesized through an SN 2 reaction. Their structures were confirmed both possessing Z-shaped cavities in single crystal analysis. The optical properties of these macrocycles were systematically investigated using UV-vis spectroscopy and fluorescence techniques. It is worth noting that the introduction of a methoxy group to the TPE unit enables the synthesis of a near-infrared-emitting macrocycle O2 4PF6 . The recognition behaviors of these two macrocycles towards nucleotides were investigated using various techniques including fluorescence titration, UV-vis titration, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Interestingly, these cyclophanes exhibited aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effects in water or under the induction of nucleotides. Abstract :
Two o-carborane-hybridized macrocyclic arenes have been synthesized via Friedel-Crafts alkylation of carborane diaryl derivatives. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis clearly revealed their cavity structure and intermolecular interaction force. These novel macrocycles exhibited aggregation-induced luminescence and intramolecular charge transfer properties and also significant selectivity towards nitro explosive compounds. This work provided a method for the synthesis of hybridized macrocyclic arenes.

Abstract :
A kind of o-carborane-based macrocycle was synthesized via oxidative coupling of acetylene-terminated o-carborane precursors. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unambiguously revealed their unique porous supramolecular structures, which displayed micropore characteristics. Interestingly, the crystal structure of macrocyclic CBMC-2 formed through non-covalent interactions shows packing parameters corresponding to the ideal polymerization parameters. UV-vis, DSC and X-ray analyses indicated that the crystals of macrocycle CBMC-2 could undergo diacetylene topochemical polymerization inside the solid by heating. This was confirmed using Raman spectroscopy and solid-state C-13 NMR spectroscopy. This work provides a method for synthesizing carborane supramolecular polymers.

Two o-carborane-based pi-conjugated macrocycles were synthesized via the oxidative coupling of acetylene-terminated o-carborane precursors. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unambiguously revealed their unique porous supramolecular structures, which exhibit micropore characteristics. These novel macrocycles exhibit aggregation-induced emission in both the aggregated state and the solid state. This work provides a new design strategy for developing o-carborane macrocyclic molecules with excellent photophysical properties. Based on the obvious fluorescence quenching phenomenon of macrocycles by 1,4-dinitrobenzene and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol, it can be concluded that these macrocyclic compounds have promising potential as sensors for nitroaromatics.

Abstract :
Two novel carborane-based benzimidazolium fluorescent probes 4a and 4b were synthesized using 1,2-bis(4-benzylbromophenyl)-o-carborane as starting materials. The structures were characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, B-11 NMR and ESI-MS, and the recognition properties of probes 4a and 4b for nucleotides were studied by fluorescence and ultraviolet spectroscopy. The results of fluorescence titration showed that probes 4a and 4b could achieve on-off response to uridine monophosphate (UMP), and had good selectivity and sensitivity. The detection limit of probe 4b for UMP could reach 3.41 x 10(-8) mol/L. The recognition mechanism of the probe 4b was studied by Job 's curve and (HNMR)-H-1 titration.

Abstract :
The selective functionalization of o-carboranes is a popular topic in carborane chemistry. o-Carborane has been widely used in aggregation-induced luminescent materials, nonlinear luminescent materials and other function materials due to its special 3D-aromaticity. The pi conjugated systems-tethered o-carboranes could further broaden its applications in the field of luminescent materials. Herein, we have developed a palladium-catalyzed Heck-type mono-alkenylation of o-carboranes featuring phosphine oxide as the directing group.

Abstract :
To develop a new type of energetic ionic liquid (EIL) that has a catalytic effect on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) and can be ignited in white fuming nitric acid (WFNA), six borane-containing ionic liquids based on biferrocene were successfully synthesized, and their structures were determined by x-ray crystallography. Except for iodized salts, four EILs with high thermal stability burned rapidly in WFNA, one of which, bis[1-(ferrocenylmethyl)imidazole-3-yl] dihydroboronium cyanoborohydride, [Fcmim][BH3CN], produced the shortest ignition delay (ID) time of 5 ms. However, iodized salts demonstrated a better catalytic effect on AP than did BH3CN-- or N(CN)(2)(-)-based EILs and bis[1-(ferrocenylmethyl)benzimidazole-3-yl] dihydroboronium iodide, [Fcbemim][I], could advance the final thermal decomposition temperature of AP by 50 degrees C. Anions have a significant effect on the structures and performances of ionic liquids.
