Performance of Fe-dosing membrane bioreactor and evaluation of phosphorus recovery as vivianite after long-term operation SCIE

Abstract :

In this study, the influence of high concentration of iron on the nutrient removal, membrane fouling and microbial diversity of membrane bioreactor for wastewater treatment were systematically investigated. Moreover, the potential of phosphorus recovery in the form of vivianite was assessed after the long-term operation. The results show that TP concentration in effluent was decreased to 1.07 +/- 0.47 mg/L (without Fe addition), 0.41 +/- 0.23 mg/L (Fe/P = 2), 0.20 +/- 0.12 mg/L (Fe/P = 4). Compared with control group, the TN concentration in effluent was higher at the high concentration of iron, which was due to the decreased nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) by microbial population analysis. Membrane fouling was alleviated by enlarging floc size and reducing supernatant COD via adding iron. Besides, it was detected that the amorphous ferric oxide and Fe(III) bound phosphorus were the main Fe and P speciation and vivanite (ca. 29 %). The anaerobic environment was conducive to the formation of vivianite and the phosphorus recovery as vivanite was recommended based on the results of current study.

Abstract :

The performance of three pilot scale intermittent aeration membrane bioreactors (IAMBRs) with different operating phases was evaluated over a long-term operation. Moreover, the effects of different effluent strategy on the carbon emission and economic cost of the reactor were analyzed. The results show that the average removal rate of organic matter and total phosphorus (TP) was stably above 90 %. However, the single-point continuous inflow led to the uneven distribution of carbon source and nitrogen in the anoxic section, which inhibited the denitrification process. Therefore, the short-term aeration during phase II was conducted to enhance the denitrification, and the result showed that pre-aeration significantly improved the degradation efficiency of NH3-N. More importantly, the carbon emission of IAMBR process (Device 1 and 3 was 0.695 kg/m3 and 0.657 kg/m3, respectively) was lower than that of traditional activated sludge process, MBR process and AAO-MBR process. This study demonstrated that in the areas with low effluent quality requirements, the intermittent aeration operation with gravity effluent could be a better selection in reducing the operating costs and indirect carbon emissions.

Abstract :

Heavy metals in dust have been found to be a significant threat to human health, but how dust sources and physicochemical properties influence the distribution of heavy metals has not been fully investigated. Fuzhou, a Chinese subtropical city, was chosen as a case in this study. We collected 51 dust samples from open spaces, in order to serve as an early warning system for heavy metals in urban dust, the risk level of heavy metal pollution was assessed, the physicochemical properties of dust were analyzed, and the sources of heavy metals were examined using a combination of positive matrix factorization (PMF) and backward trajectory model (MeteoInfo). The results showed that the average concentrations of heavy metals were Zn > Pb > Cr > Cu > Ni > As > Cd, with Cd having the highest ecological risk level. All heavy metals are positively correlated, the higher the organic matter and the larger the particle size, the higher the heavy metal concentration. The higher the water content, the higher the Ni and Cu content. The sources of heavy metals in dust are complex and include local anthropogenic sources: traffic, architectural paint, combustion, and mixed sources, as well as the impact of atmospheric motion on dust from northern cities in Fuzhou City and Zhejiang Province. Our study provides a valuable point of reference for early warning of urban heavy metal.

Synergistic effects of peroxydisulfate on UV/O3 process for tetracycline degradation: Mechanism and pathways SCIE

Abstract :

Tetracycline (TC) as a typical emerging pollutant is becoming a serious threat to the environment and human health. A combined advanced oxidation technology of UV/Ozone (O3 )/peroxydisulfate (PDS) process was developed to explore an efficient and economic treatment process of TC in wastewater. Furthermore, the reactive sites and transformation pathways of TC were explored and the toxicity of the intermediates was quantified with a quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) assessment. The degradation performance of TC was substantially enhanced in UV/O3 /PDS process with a kobs of 0.0949 min-1 , which was 2.3 times higher than UV/O3 and 3.2 times than sole UV. The results demonstrated that there was a superior synergistic effect of PDS on UV/O3 processes for the degradation of TC. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis and quenching experiments show that ' OH, SO4 '-, O2 '-and 1 O2 all contributed to TC degradation in the UV/O3 /PDS process and exhibited a synergistic effect, which inhibited the generation of harmful products. In addition, the UV/O3 /PDS system can effectively degrade TC in a wide range of substrate concentrations and pH, and also showed excellent adaptability to various concentrations of anions (Cl- and HCO3 -). This study proves the feasibility of UV/O3 /PDS process for treating TC contaminated wastewater with complicated water matrix. Spinel-type complex oxides are considered promising electrocatalysts, nevertheless, the mechanism of electrocatalytic reduction of O 2 to generate H 2 O 2 and to activate H 2 O 2 still needs to be further explored. In this work, the dependence of selectivity of electrocatalytic O 2 to generate H 2 O 2 and the efficiency of activating H 2 O 2 of defect sites in ZnFe 2 O 4 /CNT composites were investigated based on experimental data and characterization. Firstly, the ZnFe 2 O 4 /CNT composites were obtained by hydrothermal method combined with high-temperature calcination. Then phenol was used as a typical pollutant to evaluate its electrocatalytic performance. The results indicated that ZnFe 2 O 4 /CNT can degrade nearly 100% phenol of 20 mg/L and appears excellent TOC removal efficiency. Impedance experiments showed that the existence of CNT significantly promoted the electron transfer for ZnFe 2 O 4 /CNT. Raman spectroscopy and XPS analysis disclosed that the defect degree of CNT as well as oxygen vacancies of ZnFe 2 O 4 in the ZnFe 2 O 4 /CNT composites were higher than those of the individual CNT and ZnFe 2 O 4 , greatly facilitating the adsorption of O 2 . Consequently, more O 2 was reduced electrocatalytically to H 2 O 2 via the 2e process. Free radical quenching experiments and Fenton experiments showed that homogeneous and heterogeneous activation jointly promoted the conversion of H 2 O 2 to center dot OH. This work provides a strategy for the design of efficient electrocatalysts with spinel structures.

以CNKI与Web of ScienceTM(WOS)核心合集中2002-2020 年Visual MINTEQ(VM)为主题的文献作为数据来源,借助CiteSpace,从发文量、国家、机构、作者和研究热点等方面整理、归纳并评述VM在重金属形态研究中的运用热点及趋势.结果表明:1)发文量呈逐年波动增长趋势,中国的国际影响力最高,布-阿里大学、中国科学院、浙江大学软弱土与环境土工教育部重点实验室等为主要中英文发文机构,Gustafsson J P被引频次最高,作者间以国内协作为主.2)VM在重金属形态研究中的使用热点主要在模拟不同环境因子对水/土环境介质中重金属形态影响和不同水/土环境介质中重金属矿物的沉淀或溶解,以及使用 DLM、CD-MUSIC、NICA-Donnan等表面络合模型计算处理不同吸附行为.3)VM将来还可运用于沉积物中重金属迁移、生物体内重金属毒理性及大气中痕量金属络合等方面研究.

Abstract :

为了降低玉米秸秆碱预处理过程中药剂的成本,探究了气吹脱沼液辅助CaO(投加量3%、5%、6%和8%)联合预处理对玉米秸秆厌氧消化产甲烷性能的影响,并与未气吹脱沼液辅助CaO预处理进行对比。结果表明,相比未气吹脱沼液辅助CaO和未预处理组,气吹脱沼液辅助CaO联合预处理组能获得最高的木质素降解率和累积甲烷产量,其中气吹脱沼液辅助8%CaO联合预处理组的累积甲烷产量达到209.24 mL/g VS,较未预处理组(124.27 mL/g VS)提高68.36%。工程经济分析表明,气吹脱1 h高温厌氧沼液辅助3%CaO联合预处理组能在最低CaO投加量下获得最高利润达533.47元/t秸秆,较未预处理组提高50.30%。

Abstract :

在"碳中和"的可持续发展理念及自养生物脱氮工艺需低碳高氮的理想进水水质要求下,城市生活污水高效碳源捕获技术得到了快速发展,文章针对该技术捕获的碳源污泥展开厌氧发酵性能研究.结果表明,捕获碳源污泥在厌氧发酵中溶解性有机物SCODCr 降解率高达约 77.70%、挥发性悬浮固体(VSS)降解率为 15.26%、发酵过程中总磷(TP)质量浓度为(1.35±0.18)mg/L.此外,捕获碳源污泥发酵平均累积产气量可达到 31.43 mL/(g VSS)、709.54 mL/(g SCODCr),同时通过三维荧光光谱发现厌氧污泥能直接利用捕获碳源污泥中的碳源进行发酵.相比对照组的厌氧污泥,捕获碳源污泥具有快速发酵、高效产气和污泥减量稳定化的优势,为自养生物脱氮工艺中产生的捕获碳源污泥的处理处置及资源化利用提供了一种新思路.

在膜生物反应器(MBR)工艺实际运行过程中,污水中含有的硬质颗粒物等会对膜表面或膜内部造成物理性损伤,并且伴随聚偏氟乙烯(PVDF)膜使用时间的增长,周期性的化学清洗也会导致膜材料老化加重,直至出现产水性能不断下降、维护成本逐渐上升的现象,膜组件不可避免地达到寿命终点。基于实验室小试,采用二甲基亚砜(DMSO)转换膜结构,并且使用单宁酸-铁涂覆的方式修复工程受损膜,使其恢复生产能力,并进行工程应用中试。经过135 d的连续运行发现,修复再生膜的产水性能持续显著优于对照组,出水水质稳定,经修复后膜组件的物理化学性能均得到较为全面的提升。

Spatial patterns of PM2.5-bound heavy metals and analysis of their influencing factors in China SCIE

Abstract :

This study investigates the relationship between the spatial distribution patterns of heavy metals (HMs) in atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and their influencing factors in China, in order to address air pollution problems. Using HM data from PM2.5 collected from 88 Chinese cities between 2012 and 2020, the study employed a combination of enrichment factor (EF) analysis, standard deviation ellipses and hot spot analysis to assess spatial distribution patterns; geographical detectors to identify influencing factors; and hybrid singleparticle Lagrangian integrated trajectory models (HYSPLIT) to determine air mass movement. The results reveal that the spatial distribution of PM2.5-bound HMs in China is characterized by high levels in the north and interior and low levels in the south and along the coast. Anthropogenic activities affect HM levels in China's interior more strongly than on the coast. Moreover, the distribution of PM2.5-bound HMs in China exhibits a northeast-southwest spatial pattern, with significantly higher levels observed in central and northern regions than in eastern regions, particularly along the coast. Industrial waste emissions and energy consumption are key factors contributing to high PM2.5-bound HMs. In central China, the summer air mass movement predominantly follows a southeast direction, while in winter, it follows a northwest direction, originating from inland. In contrast, in eastern China, summer air mass movement predominantly follows a southeast direction, while in winter, it follows a northeast direction, originating from the ocean. Overall, our findings suggest that HMs in PM2.5 display high clustering values in central China, due primarily to industrial waste emissions, energy consumption, and air mass movement.
