Abstract :
The nickel element doped holmium oxide (Ho2O3:Ni) transparent magneto-optical ceramics were fabricated by vacuum sintering and the dopant impacts on structure features and Faraday effects were investigated. The starting oxide powders were synthesized by pyrolyzing the resulting layered holmium-based hydroxide nanosheets prepared from a chemical precipitation route using the sodium hydroxide as precipitant at the freezing temperature. Upon high-temperature sintering, the Nii center dot center dot${\mathrm{Ni}}_i<^>{ \bullet \bullet }$ defect is introduced by Ni2+ substitution for Ho3+ to form the interstitial solid solution. The 1 at.% Ni2+ doped Ho2O3 ceramic sample exhibits an in-line transmittance of similar to 70.04% at 1 550 nm with a relative density of similar to 99.88%, while more Ni2+ incorporation (e.g., 2-5 at.%) even leads to a completely opaque state. The magneto-optical transparent Ho2O3:1%Ni ceramic developed in this work has Verdet constants of similar to-195, -65, and -29 rad/(T center dot m) at 635, 1 064, and 1 550 nm, respectively, which are similar to 1.8-fold higher than the commercial terbium gallium garnet crystal or similar to 1.4-fold higher than the pure Ho2O3 ceramic. This material also possesses relatively large figure of merit of similar to 14.6 degrees/T at 1 064 nm and relatively high thermal conductivity of similar to 7.5 W/(m center dot K) at room temperature. The magneto-optical transparent Ho2O3:xNi2+ (x = 1-5 at.%) ceramics were fabricated by vacuum sintering using layered rare-earth hydroxides as the precursors. Our results demonstrated that elemental nickel was a quite effective dopant for enhanced Verdet constant and the optimum ceramic composition of Ho2O3:1%Niexhibited good potential to apply to the high-power laser system, especially for use in the near-infrared region. image

Abstract :
The chiral sillenite Bi25FeO40 exhibits versatile properties including electro-optics, magneto-optics, optical rotation, and photorefraction, showing great potential in multi-functional magneto-optical devices. However, the weak magnetism of this crystal leads to a poor magneto-optical property, which is extremely hindering its practical applications. Combining with the sillenite structure, the formation energy and the magnetic-optical effect are calculated based on density functional theory. The codoping of strongly magnetic Co and Fe ions is predicted to enable high doping concentrations. The hybridization between Bi 6p orbitals and Fe/Co 3d orbitals significantly enhances the optical transition and thus greatly improves the magneto-optical properties. The millimeter-sized Bi26-x-yCoxFeyO40 crystals are successfully prepared by hydrothermal methods. The characterizations on structure, TG-DSC, magnetism, and magneto-optical effect confirm the theoretical predictions that the Co-Fe codoped crystals maintain the chiral bismuth ferrite structure with multifunctional properties and high thermal stability. The Co-Fe codoping significantly enhances the magnetism and magneto-optical properties of Bi25FeO40 crystal. The magnetization of Bi19.0Co3.5Fe3.5O40 increases by 27 times and the magneto-optical effect of Bi19.8Co3.0Fe3.2O40 at 720, 777, 1288, 1388, and 1790 nm are greater than Bi:YIG and undoped Bi25FeO40. Bi26-x-yCoxFeyO40 crystals with enhanced magneto-optical properties by Co-Fe codoping are promising for novel multifunctional magneto-optical devices. DFT calculation is a feasible way for predicting the magneto-optical Faraday rotation angle of Bi25FeO40 sillenite crystal. A series of cubic Bi26-x-yCoxFeyO40 crystals are prepared by hydrothermal method. Bi19.8Co3.0Fe3.2O40 crystal has a stronger magneto-optical effect than the commercial Bi:YIG crystal in 1500-1800 nm. It opens up new possibility for the creation of novel multiple functions magneto-optical devices. image

运用高温固相法合成系列掺铕(Eu)的氮化物荧光粉Ca_(1-)_xAlSiN_3∶xEu~(2+),对所得到的最佳样品Ca_(0.99)AlSiN_3∶0.01Eu~(2+)进行系列表征和结构精修.结果表明,样品Ca_(0.99)AlSiN_3∶0.01Eu~(2+)的晶粒尺寸为10μm左右,各元素分布均匀,其精修图与实测XRD谱图基本吻合,属于正交晶系结构.该样品的色坐标为(0.645 1, 0.354 5),落在红光区域,色纯度高达100%,相关色温为2 449 K,属于低色温.该荧光粉在298~473 K范围内表现出良好的热稳定性,活化能为0.26 eV,具有广阔的市场前景.

Abstract :
Cubic Sillenite Bi25FeO40 (BFO) could become a new magneto-optical material due to its high concentration of Bi3+ and no birefringence. But its weak magnetism causes the magneto-optical properties to be far from the requirements of practical applications. Doping magnetic Fe3+ and Ni2+ ions to improve the magnetism and magneto-optical properties of BFO (Bi19Ni2.8Fe4.2O40) film on fluorine-doped tin oxide (BNFO/FTO) is discussed in this paper. Another focus of this paper is to discuss the magneto-optical properties modulated by the electric field. The cubic BNFO film has weak piezoelectric effects, which makes it difficult to modulate its magnetooptical effect by electric field. A polarity symmetry induced by the Schottky junction between Au metal layer and BNFO semiconductor layer (Au/BNFO) compensates for cubic symmetry, and the piezoelectric effect can be improved. By applying an electric field, its magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) ellipticity |Psi F| gradually decreases as a direct current voltage from 0 V to 10 V in a magnetic field of 2500 Oe, demonstrating the feasibility of this strategy. These results indicate a new way for highly symmetric magneto-optical materials to modulate magneto-optical effects in electric fields.

Abstract :
Bi-doped rare earth iron garnet (Bi:RIG) crystal is an ideal magneto-optical material for optical isolators in the near-infrared band, which has been widely used in optical communication applications. In this paper, centimetersized and good-quality Ni2+-doped Bi:RIG crystals were successfully grown by top-seeded solution growth (TSSG). The transmittance reaches 72.6% at 1550 nm, which is higher than commercial Bi:TbIG crystal and close to the theoretical values of RIG crystals. Doping Ni can not only greatly improve the transmittance, magnetic, and magneto-optical properties, but also decrease the Faraday rotation temperature (FTC) and wavelength coefficients (FWC) of the Bi:RIG crystal. The FTC and FWC of (Bi0.37Ho1.18Eu0.83Gd0.62)(Fe4.20Ni0.25Ga0.55)O-12 crystal reduced to - 6.3 x 10(-4) K-1 and 8.0 x 10(-4) nm(-1), which are about 30% and 80% of commercial Bi:TbIG crystal, respectively. (Bi0.37Ho1.18Eu0.83Gd0.62)(Fe4.20Ni0.25Ga0.55)O-12 exhibits potential for utilization in new high -performance, wideband magneto-optical isolators, and is expected to find application in the field of wavelength division multiplexing fiber communication.

Abstract :
Based on the thermal stability analysis by density functional theory and the crystal phase optimization by tolerance factor, the crystal structure was designed. So, a new cubic Ce3Sc2Ga3O12 (CSGG) garnet material with a high Ce3+ concentration was synthesized. The centimeter-scale CSGG crystal was grown by the Czochralski method. CSGG exhibits fine magneto-optical properties, which are attributed to the stable valence and high concentration of rare-earth Ce3+ ions. Compared with commercial Tb3Ga5O12 (TGG), CSGG is also paramagnetic, but its magneto-optical properties are better. The Verdet constants of CSGG in 532, 635, 1064, and 1550 nm are -380.0, -258.8, -47.5, and -22.4 rad/Tm, respectively, which are from 1.2 to 2.0 times that of TGG. Moreover, the CSGG crystal has high transmittance in 1500-2300 nm to make up for the poor transmittance of TGG crystal in this band. Also, considering its low raw material cost, the CSGG crystal presents promising application potential. It could be qualified as an essential material for magneto-optical isolators, circulators, and switches within the visible to mid-infrared band.

采用熔盐法,以Bi_2O_3为自助溶剂,成功制备了Sr/Ti∶BiFeO_3系列晶体。X射线衍射谱和Rietveld精修结果显示,Sr~(2+)、Ti~(4+)离子掺杂使BiFeO_3的结构从三方相转变为无双折射的立方相。这一结构转变也通过扫描电子显微镜的观察得到了证实。Sr/Ti∶BiFeO_3的X射线光电子能谱表明,随着Sr~(2+)、Ti~(4+)的引入,BiFeO_3的Fe元素价态发生改变。高价Fe离子的生成使BiFeO_3产生晶格畸变,并对其周期性螺旋自旋磁结构产生抑制作用,从而使BiFeO_3的宏观磁性得到提高,但矫顽力没有发生明显变化。晶体磁滞回线和磁圆二色效应光谱显示,Bi_(0.7)Sr_(0.3)Fe_(0.7)Ti_(0.3)O_3的饱和磁化强度较BiFeO_3提高了3倍,其磁光效应达到商用Y_3Fe_5O_(12)的4.5倍。

Abstract :
Bi3+-doped iron garnet crystals (Bi:RIG) have received extensive attention for their excellent magneto-optical properties. The quality of garnet crystals has a great relationship with mismatch in the lattice and thermal expansion between crystals and seeds. Compared with TGG seeds, Sc,Ga:YIG is more suitable as the seed for growing Bi:(HoEu)IG crystals. The crystal quality and match in the lattice and thermal expansion have been discussed. The as-grown Bi:(HoEu)IG crystal has a specific Faraday rotation angle of -467 degrees cm-1 and shows a strong magneto-optical effect.

运用高温固相法合成掺铈的氮化物荧光粉La_3Si_6N_(11)∶Ce~(3+)。采用X射线衍射仪、能谱仪、荧光光谱仪对合成样品的结构、发光性能等进行研究,利用Rietveld方法对其结构精修,并计算了La_3Si_6N_(11)∶Ce~(3+)的色坐标、色纯度和色温。结果表明:该荧光粉的色坐标为(0.4165,0.558),落在黄绿光区域,计算得到La_(2.82)Si_6N_(11)∶Ce_(0.18)~(3+)的色纯度约为92.86%,具有较高的纯度,相关色温为4137K,属于中间色温。通过计算可得掺杂后La_3Si_6N_(11)∶Ce~(3+)的带隙值为2.92eV,相对掺杂前略微减少,且La_3Si_6N_(11)∶Ce~(3+)体系属于直接带隙结构,从而有利于提高其发光性能。

Abstract :
A novel Praseodymium-doped borate (Pr:alpha-BBO) laser crystal was grown successfully by using the Czochralski method. The phase structure, absorption and fluorescence lifetime, as well as blue laser diode (LD) pump performances of Pr:alpha-BBO were totally studied. The segregation coefficient and valence state of Pr ions in the crystals were investigated using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy and X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy. A 450 nm blue LD was employed to carry out a pump experiment on the Pr:alpha-BBO slab crystal with a doping concentration of 0.22 at.%. The main emission peaks of Pr3+ ions in the orange-red light band were found to be at 611.5 nm, 634.7 nm, and 638.3 nm. The experimental results show that the Pr:alpha-BBO crystal exhibits higher orange light fluorescence emission performance, with an emission peak intensity at 611 nm that is 2.1 times stronger than that at 635 nm due to the splitting of the 3P0 -> 3F2 transition (635 nm). By optimizing the Pr:alpha-BBO laser crystal growth process and further solid-state laser experiments, it can be expected to have broad applications in laser medicine, spectral detection, and nonlinear optical frequency conversion fields.
