Ammonia absorption by water droplet in a small controlled atmosphere wind tunnel SCIE
期刊论文 | 2024 , 292 | CHEMICAL ENGINEERING SCIENCE
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

The mass transfer characteristics during ammonia absorption into a sessile water droplet in a small controlledatmosphere wind tunnel were investigated using particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) with polystyrene microspheres. The results showed that the flow field inside the droplet transformed from Marangoni convection to Rayleigh convection in the absence of gas flow. As the gas velocity increased, the drag force-induced circulation inhibited the Marangoni convection in the initial stage of the mass transfer process and Rayleigh convection in the advanced stage. However, the suppressed Marangoni convection cells recurred at high initial ammonia concentrations. Compared with the initial ammonia concentration in the wind tunnel and droplet size, the gas velocity significantly increased the gas-phase mass transfer coefficient. Furthermore, a calculation model for ammonia absorption by a moving droplet was derived based on the Colburn analogy and the two-film theory. The gas-phase mass transfer coefficients calculated using the model coincided with the experimental results. These results will help the design of water curtains.

水平管道中甲醇和汽油顺序输送过程混油规律研究

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Insights into the synergistic effect of polylactam kinetic hydrate inhibitor and amino acid via molecular dynamics simulations SCIE

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Technological innovation is urgently needed to solve the problem of hydrate formation in oil and gas transmission pipelines for the flow assurance guarantee. Typical kinetic hydrate inhibitors for industrial application are the combination of lactam-based polymers with solvent synergists. In this study, a novel non-solvent synergist leucine (Leu) was proposed for improving the kinetic inhibition effect of polyvinyl caprolactam (PVCap). The synergism of PVCap and Leu was investigated via molecular dynamics simulations. Results showed that the 1 wt% PVCap + 2 wt% Leu system can totally inhibit methane hydrate formation within the simulation period, and the combination systems with other concentrations have negligible effects on delaying hydrate nucleation but can significantly slow down the hydrate growth rate. The excellent synergism of PVCap and Leu may be due to the large diffusion coefficient of the molecules in the systems, which provides a high probability for the aggregation of methane molecules and induces the formation of bubbles. In addition, the bubbles can be further stabilized by the amphiphilic PVCap and Leu molecules around it. This study also provides new insights to develop powerful synergists for PVCap, which would be helpful to the design strategy of KHIs with high efficiency.

Effect of Solid Surface Properties on Spreading of a CO2 Hydrate Film in a Restricted Space between Two Parallel Silicon Substrates SCIE
期刊论文 | 2023 , 11 (39) , 14399-14408 | ACS SUSTAINABLE CHEMISTRY & ENGINEERING
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

CO2 hydrate formation in a restricted space is studied by conducting in situ visual observation when CO2 gas reacts with a water droplet between two silicon wafers at 2.8-3.8 MPa and -6 to 6 degrees C. It is found that the hydrate film first appears around the gas-liquid interface and then spreads on the surface of silicon wafer by continuous formation at the advancing front. Experiments are also conducted with silicon wafers with different surface properties, prepared by the pretreatment methods of three types, to study the effect of solid surface on CO2 hydrate formation. The results show that no hydrate spreading is observed on the hydrophobic surface pretreated by 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane solution or crude oil; the hydrate film is observed, and it spreads on the hydrophilic surface pretreated by piranha solution. Quantitative analysis of the results obtained is employed to understand the intrinsic mechanism. It is found that considering the hydrate film spreading on solid surfaces under experimental conditions, the interfacial tension of hydrate and silicon wafer might play a more significant role in hydrate spreading rate and hydrate film thickness compared to pressure and temperature.
