Abstract :
In this letter, we propose a two-stage method to design finite-length puncturing patterns for LDPC codes with Hadamard constraints. At the first stage, we propose the distribution of puncturing patterns and develop extrinsic information transfer functions for distribution optimization in terms of the lowest decoding threshold. At the second stage, we analyze the iterative update process of a Hadamard check node (HCN) and find that the Euclidean distance determines the reliability of its output extrinsic information. Based on this, we propose a greedy algorithm to design puncturing patterns to maximize the number of punctured variable nodes with reliable input information. Simulations verify the good performance of the Hadamard-LDPC code with our designed puncturing patterns, compared to the 5G new radio LDPC code and the same Hadamard-LDPC code with other puncturing patterns.

Abstract :
In this letter, a layered scaled extended min-sum (LSEMS) algorithm is proposed to decode non-binary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes in physical-layer network coding (PNC) systems. The proposed LSEMS algorithm is developed for the joint channel decoding and physical-layer network coding (JCNC) over wireless fading channels. It proposes a sequential update of check nodes to decode the exclusive ORed (XORed) codewords that are generated by the non-binary LDPC codes. The LSEMS algorithm achieves almost the same decoding complexity as the scaled extended min-sum (SEMS) algorithm, while it benefits from much less complexity than the reliability-based layered BP (RLBP) algorithm. Simulation results show that the LSEMS algorithm outperforms the conventional SEMS algorithm by about 0.5 dB in non-binary LDPC-coded PNC for both q-level pulse amplitude modulation (q-PAM) and q-ary phase shift keying (q-PSK) modulations.

Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a two-user polar-coded physical-layer network coding (TU-PC-PNC) scheme for the Gaussian multiple access channel (GMAC) to enhance the transmission reliability. We first investigate the characteristics of polar encoding and derive the concatenated codeword structure, by which we can implement the message exclusive OR (XOR)-based PNC via code construction and improve the channel polarization effect. The PNC-aided decoding rule based on the concatenated codeword is then invented to compute the initial messages for recovery. In addition, we introduce the joint optimization framework by Monte Carlo-based method, which can be used to optimize the polar code and power allocation with maximized sum user rate. The capacity analysis of the bit-channels and simulation results show that the proposed TU-PC-PNC can significantly outperform the benchmark scheme by more than 1 dB under the GMAC.

Abstract :
Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided spatial modulation (RIS-SM) and its variants utilize the indices of receiver antennas and RIS grouping to transmit additional information bits, with the limited performance for large inactivated RIS elements. To address this issue, we propose to exploit an activation mode index for RIS-SM (AMI-RIS-SM), where the RIS can operate in different activation modes during various time slots. In this way, its activation mode index, coupled with the receiver antenna index, can transmit more information bits. Furthermore, we propose maximum likelihood (ML) and low-complexity pre-greedy ML detections to recover the transmitted bits. We then derive the bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed AMI-RIS-SM. The analytical and consistent simulation results show that the proposed scheme can achieve significant performance of up to a 4 dB gain over its counterparts.
