Abstract:
Falls pose a significant risk factor leading to fatalities among the elderly, with bathrooms often being the scene of such incidents. This is partly attributable to visual and cognitive impairments in the elderly, which can lead to visual misperceptions of bathroom spaces. Through eye-tracking experiments conducted on the elderly, this study concludes that the size, color, and tiling method of floor tiles do not influence the visual attention of the elderly. However, the use of conspicuous colors to highlight elevation level change can significantly enhance the visual attention of the elderly, thereby facilitating the identification and judgment of hazards. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2025.
