Abstract:
Metal-organic framework (MOF) thin films are very useful in applications involving separation, sensors, energy storage and conversions, due to their ultra-high surface area and tunable properties. Several techniques have been developed to prepare high-quality MOF films with controllable thickness. Among these methods, anodic deposition has the potential for the large-scale production of MOF films, owing to its mild synthesis condition, short synthesis time, real-time monitoring capability, and the possibility for scale-up. In this review, the recent advances in the anodic deposition of MOF films are summarized. The nucleation, crystallization, crystal growth and film growth of anodic deposition of MOF films are discussed. Then, the main applications of anodically deposited MOF films are introduced. Finally, challenges and future directions of the anodic deposition of MOF films are described to promote the development of this technique.
