Abstract:

In order to provide reliable energy dissipation performance and easy post-earthquake replacement, an assembled rotational friction damper was designed and fabricated with a simple configuration and clear force-transmission mechanism. Based on the establishment of the resilience model, the damper was tested using a load-shear test machine under the different pre-tightening torque forces and loading frequencies. The hysteresis curves, skeleton curves, unit hysteresis energy curves, and the equivalent damping ratios were obtained and compared with the theoretical predictions to verify the accuracy of the theoretical model. The analysis results demonstrate that the developed resilience model for the damper design has high consistency with the experimental observations. The measured hysteresis curves show plump loops indicating the satisfactory energy dissipation performance of the damper. The frictional coefficient, as well as the hysteresis performance, has little correlation with the loading frequencies. The unit hysteresis energy increases with the increase of the loading displacements. At this moment, the equivalent damping ratio becomes larger. © 2023 Science Press. All rights reserved.
