Study on Signal Control Critical Condition for Setting Channelized Islands at Intersection
Translated Abstract
In order to determine the signal control critical condition for setting channelized islands at intersection, by using traffic wave theoretical modeling, traffic simulation and other methods, taking typical 4-phase control signalized intersection as object, the characteristics of pedestrian and bicycle traffic crossing street at signalized intersection with channelized islands are analysed, and the model for calculating the minimum green time, the maximum red time and the green light interval time for pedestrian and bicycle crossing signal is built. The minimum green time threshold value of through vehicle in different cycle time is proposed by simulation, and the method of phase and timing scenario coordination for motor vehicle and non-motorized traffic is proposed. The result shows that (1) the minimum green time of pedestrians and bicycles is associated with release time, crossing time and green flash time, the longest red time needs to avoid the arriving pedestrians and bicycles overflowing the channelized islands during red time, and the green interval time needs to avoid the happen of conflicts;(2) the minimum green time for through vechicles are 21, 25, 32 s while the signal cycle are 80, 100, 120 s.
