Abstract:
The creep models specified in the ACI 209R-92 and the CEB-FIP MC90 are both commonly used in predicting the creep of concrete in Concrete-filled Steel Tube (CFST) arch bridges in China. A lot of experimental researches showed that the ACI 209R-92 model predicted better creep result for CFST specimens than the CEB-FIP MC90 did. However, most of the Chinese designers are more familiar with the CEB-FIP MC90 model recommended by the Code for Design of Highway Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Bridges and Culverts (JTG D62-2004,China). In this paper, the creep effects of two CFST arch bridges in ten years after bridge completion are predicted by the two creep models, and also the results are analyzed. It is shown from the case studies that the maximum difference between the results with the ACI 209R-92 and CEB-FIP MC90 models is less than 5 %. Therefore, both ACI 209R-92 and CEB-FIP MC90 models have the similar creep analysis results and could be used in engineering practice before more precise model is presented.
