Abstract:

The N-phenyl maleimide(N-PMI) modified novolac resin was used to prepare resin microspheres via suspension polymerization using silicone oil as dispersant. The morphology of N-PMI modified novolac resin microspheres was investigated through scanning electron microscope (SEM). The thermal behavior of the resin microspheres was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTG). Moreover, The chemical structures of the resin microspheres at different pyrolysis temperature were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrum(FT-IR). The results show that the resin microspheres with size of 10 μm~20 μm have fine degree of sphericity and smoothness. The resin microspheres possess excellent thermal properties as indicated by that initial thermal decomposition temperature is 400°C and coke value arrives at 61.8%. Moreover, the pyrolysis products of the resin microspheres are made up of carbon spheres with fine degree of sphericity.
