Abstract:
In traditional barriers, Moiré fringe is very obvious in vertically aligned barrier and the viewing area is relatively small in slanted barrier. This paper presents a design of vertically staggered barrier which can reduce the Moiré fringe. The slits were divided into sections at half of a pixel height and the adjacent two sections were separated at a certain distance. This method can reduce the proportion of the perceived black matrix seen through the same slit, and thus increase the brightness of the dark part of the Moiré fringe. In this way weakened moiré fringes can be acquired. The simulated and measured results show that the vertically staggered barrier can increase the brightness of the Moiré fringes by 50% compared with vertical barrier with a decrease of only 28% for the viewing area. And it has higher application value for autostereoscopic display.
