Abstract:

The carbon-nanotubes (CNTs) /MnOx@ carbon hybrid nano-materials with 1-D core/shell architecture were fabricated via one-step synthesis, followed by carbonization, with CNTs, KMnO4, Mn (CHCOO)2·4H2O, and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as the reactants. The nanostructures and electrochemical properties of the CNTs/MnOx@C material were characterized with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermo-gravi-metric analysis and cyclic voltaminogram. The results show that the CNTs/MnOx@C composite may be a good anode ma-terial for lithium-ion battery because of its many favorable properties. For example, the as-synthesized CNTs/MnOx@C composite has extremely large surface areas, good conductivity, and high MnOx content up to 50%. In addition, it also exhibits an excellent cycling stability of 483.5 mAh/g after 100 cycles and a good rate capability with a specific capacity of 368.6 mAh/g when cycled at a current density of 1000 mA/g.
