Abstract:
Lutein, a kind of indispensable pigment of light -harvesting -complexs, is widely distributed in higher plants and algaes. A lutein-protein complex (LPC) was purified from Chlorella vulgaris by the procedures including solubilization of thylakoid proteins, ammonium sulfate precipitation and anion exchange chromatography. The molecular weight of purified LPC was 29.0 kDa by SDS-PAGE. Wavelength scanning confirmed that lutein is the main pigment of the complex. LPC possessed a lutein:Chi:protein ratio of about 3:1:1 according to HPLC and spectrophotometry analysis. The complex showed strong ABTS radical scavenging activity with a half elimination concentration of 80 μg/mL. © 2015, Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology. All right reserved.
