Abstract:
Cu-doped α-FeOOH nanoflowers (α-(Fe, Cu)OOH) were successfully prepared with a facile reflux method. The as-obtained products were characterized by using XRD, SEM, UV-Vis DRS and XPS, and their catalytic performances were evaluated by the degradation of ciprofloxacin with H2O2 under visible light (λ>420 nm) irradiation. The results show that the incorporation of Cu ions into α-FeOOH unit-cell led to the change of surface energy and the light absorption edge in visible light region shifted towards longer wavelength. The Cu-doping improved the activity and stability of α-FeOOH, and the ciprofloxacin (30 mg·L-1) was completely degraded in 180 min when the concentration of H2O2 was 0.15 mol·L-1 and the dosage of α-(Fe, Cu)OOH was 0.60 g·L-1. The hydroxyl radical (·OH) was important reactive oxygen species during the heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction, and the presence of Cu+/Cu2+ not only affected the generation rate of ·OH but also affected the total yield of ·OH. © 2016, Science Press.
