Abstract:

A new type of current transducer, film vibration current transducer (FVCT) is presented. The FVCT is based on Newton force of permanent magnet to act on current. A shunt coil is connected to main line and embedded in a piece of high polymer film so that the Newton force will act on current flowing in the coil and therefore drive the film to vibrate. The magnitude of vibration is a linear function of current. A non-contact vibration sensor is employed to sense the vibration in which two groups of optical fibers bundled together to transmit light with one group to the film from ground to high potential and receive light reflected and transmit it to ground as well with the other. The intensity of reflective light is modulated by current and converted to electric signal on ground. Meanwhile high potential in the FVCT is isolated to ground completely by the optical fibers. The FVCT has no power supply required in high potential, better than 0.5% accuracy, no transient response delay, capable of both AC and DC current sensing and no limit of how high of potential to be in use. A prototype has been built up for a purpose of FVCT's principle verification and 0.5% accuracy achieved. © 2009 State Grid Electric Power Research Institute Press.
