Abstract:
This paper presents an experimental study of behaviour of FRP-strengthened concrete-filled steel tubular members subjected to compression, pure bending or combined compression and bending. The main parameters varied in the test are: (1) sectional types: circular and square; (2) the number of FRP layers and fibre directions of FRP (uni-directional and bi-directional); (3) steel ratio of stub columns; (4) slenderness ratio. The test results indicates that the FRP jackets can enhance the load-bearing capacity and axial strain at the peak load for circular columns effectively, whereas the enhancement was less significant for square columns. As for the beams and beam-columns, it seems the bi-directional FRP jackets can enhance the load-bearing capacity more evidently than the uni-directional FRP jackets.
