Abstract:
Ethyl acetate was synthesized from acetic acid and ethanol using cation exchange resin as catalyst in a catalytic reactive distillation column, and catalyst-bundles of ion exchange resin catalyst packed in the column were used as reaction zones. The appropriate process conditions were obtained through investigating the influence of feed location of ethanol, space velocity, reflux ratio, and the molar ratio of acetic acid to ethanol on the performance of the catalytic distillation. The results showed that the suitable material of packing was nylon, the feed location of ethanol was at the bottom of the reaction region, and the appropriate reaction conditions were 0.213 h-1 of space velocity, 3: 1 of molar ratio of acetic acid to ethanol, 1.0 of reflux ratio. Under the appropriate conditions, conversion of ethanol and concentration of ethyl acetate reached 97.16% and 95.44%, respectively.
