Abstract:

This paper investigates the influence of site liquefaction on seismic responses of an offshore bridge. A three-dimensional saturated soil-bridge model and the same model without consideration of saturated soil were modeled on the platform of OpenSeeS. The response results of the two models have been compared and discussed. The results showed that liquefied sites had an obvious amplification effect on the surface ground motion as well as the non-liquefied sites. The frequency content and the characteristics of the input motion may significantly affect the dynamic responses in liquefied sites. Site liquefaction amplified the pier top absolute displacements and internal forces at the pier bottom. Furthermore, liquefied sites modified the distribution of internal forces when compared with non-liquefied sites. The increases of the displacements may increase the possibility of pounding between the deck and the abutment or inducing collapsing, which close attention and consideration should be given to. © 2019 Associazione Geotecnica Italiana, Rome, Italy.
