Abstract:
Based on the finite element (FE) software ABAQUS,the behavior of round-end concrete-filled steel tubular (RECFST) members under eccentric tension is studied.FE results agree well with the experimental results.Based on the FE model, mechanic and parametric analysis are carried out.Mechanic analysis shows that RECFST members have high strength and the arc segments of steel tube provide an effective confinement to core concrete.Meanwhile, the steel tube is supported by the core concrete and its tensile strength is significantly improved. The parametric analysis demonstrates that the steel strength, steel ratio and height to width ratio have moderate influences on the shape of the tension-bending curve. Finally, based on the parametric analysis,a simplified formula is proposed to predict the strength of RECFST specimens under the eccentric tension. The predicted results using simplified formula agree well with FE results, which can provide a reference for engineering design. © 2020, Progress in Steel Buiding Structures All right reserved.
