Abstract:
In order to study the influence of monolithic slab on the realization of Strong Column Weak Beam design philosophy in reinforced concrete (RC)frame structures, crack distribution of a RC frame structure in an actual project subjecting to lateral loading was investigated. A corresponding numerical analysis model was simulated to conduct a intensive research in ABAQUS. It shows that monolithic slab not only improves the actural bending resistance of frame beam by slab rebar paralelling to the beam rib, but also affects the internal forces of frame beam and column mainly in two ways:(1) changes the bending moment distribution at beam end on two sides of joint by influencing linear stiffness of frame beam; (2) generates a global structure torsion and makes weak axis bending moment at beam end and toque at top of column get much larger when lateral displacement turns large, because of the nonuniform distribution of slab plane stiffness in actual RC frame. Therefore, if the influence effects mentioned above are considered reasonably during designing stage, the strong column-weak beam philosophy will be realized preferably. © 2018, The Editorial Board of Journal of Basic Science and Engineering.
