Abstract:
A new catalytic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amount of Ag has been developed. The method is based on the catalytic effect of Ag( I ) on the oxidation of victoria blue with potassium persulfate in the presence of Triton X-100 as a solubilizing agent. The effect of the solution pH, the reagent concentration and interfering ions on reaction rate has been studied. The linear range of determination for silver is 0. 002∼0. 010 mg/L and 0. 010∼0. 080 mg/L. The detection limit is 8. 5×10-4mg/L and the relative standard deviation is 2. 1%. The method has been used to determine trace silver in photographic paper samples and the solubility product of silver chloride.
