Abstract:

A recycling batch reactor is designed to measure the kinetics rate, in which the catalytic capsules are installed in the same way as in catalytic distillation column and the liquid flow condition is similar to that in catalytic distillation column. The apparent kinetics of the hydrolysis of methyl acetate is studied and the effectiveness factors are tested for different capsule size under different conditions. The effective diffusivity within the catalyst capsule is calculated to be about 9 × 10-8 m2·s-1. The mass transfer model reported in part one of this paper is used to calculate the effectiveness factor of catalyst capsule. It shows good agreement between the predicted values and experimental data of effectiveness factor. Maximum deviation is 13.7% and average deviation is 3.2%.
