Abstract:
A complex of cadmium chloride with an N5O3 cryptand L (1,4,13,16,27-pentaaza-6,9:18,21:29,32-tribenzo-10,22,33-trioxa- bicyclopentatriacontane), [CdL(H2O)][CdCl4]·0.5H2O (1), was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction and NMR studies. The colourless crystals are orthorhombic, space group Pna21 with a=25.2257(4), b=16.5098(3), c=9.9615(1) Å, Z=4, Dc=1.526 g cm-3 and R=0.0312. The Cadmium atoms in [CdL(H2O)]2+ and in [CdCl4]2- have trigonal bipyramidal and tetrahedral coordination spheres, respectively. The conformation of the ligand in the title compound is endo-endo and the distance between the two bridgehead nitrogen atoms in L is 10.023(7) Å.
