Abstract:

In games, players are not always interested in giving non-player characters of human-level intellect. Usually, game producers write codes to control non-human creatures such as dragons, robots, or even rodents. Artificial Intelligence (AI) in game programming needs further study to solve fairly complex problems. However, if a Non-People Character (NPC) is used for attempting to have different personalities and unusual appearances with emotions, fear, and disposition, the effect of entertainment and the variety of game content is expected to be much stronger. At present, the artificial intelligence interest level in the game industry is relatively low owing to restrictions of existing level, hardware resources. But recently, game developers, producers and managers reckon artificial intelligence application as one of the important factors for game programming. This study analyses the behavioral course of NPC applied genetic Artificial Intelligence Method to maintain the players’ interest and provide the way to enhance their interest. It demonstrates designed and realized game NPC behavioral course is used properly in the game map. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
